Bobbito Garcia x Nike Air Force Ones
Posted by Matt Halfhill | Mar 21, 2007| Many of the younger sneakerheads may only know of Bobbito from the ESPN show “It’s The Shoes”, but Bobbito’s involvement and contribution to the culture goes FAR beyond that. He wrote an article for The Source in 1992 titled “Confessions of a Sneaker Addict” which was a first for its time. He went on to spend four years writing “Where’d You Get Those” which covers sneakers and NY sneaker culture from the early days. While finding a copy of The Source from ‘92 may be impossible, be sure to grab “Where’d You Get Those” next time you are at Boarders or Barns and Noble. It is the only book I have read cover to cover in one sitting, its THAT good.
Alright, now before the hype gets out of hand, the Bobbito ID Air Force Ones are NOT coming out, but 3 pairs of Air Force Ones that Bobbito collaborated with Nike will in the coming months. While the first round of Air Force Ones that were brought out this year celebrated the basketball side of the Air Force Ones, round two will celebrate the street culture that made the Air Force Ones a staple item in any sneakerhead’s wardrobe. |
