Coach K “800 Wins” Air Force Ones
Posted by Matt Halfhill | Mar 13, 2008| March 1st was a historic day in Duke basketball history when the Blue Devils defeated NC State to give Coach Mike Krzyewski (aka Coach K) his 800th win.Krzyewski attended the West Point Academy where he was coached by the men’s basketball winningest coach, Bob Knight. Krzyewski began his coaching career as an assistant to Bob Knight at the University of Indiana for just one season before returning to his alma mater for a head coaching position with the Army.
With five years of coaching at the Army with an impressive record of 73-59, Coach K was called by Duke and took up the job as head coach in 1980. He has since led Duke to an impressive record of 724-204, 23 NCAA Tournament appearances, 10 trips to the final four, and 3 NCAA Championships. These 1 of 1 Air Force Ones were cooked up in Nike’s Innovation Kitchen with the creative input of Chi McBride, Jason Badden, and Eric Lautenbach. The shoes were made of White coach leather with precisely cut suede pieces to spell DUKE on the side of the shoes. The grey flannel on the front and tongue of the shoe is a representation of the formal suit worn by cadets at the West Point Academy. Why are you people asking when they release and saying you’ll get your hands on these? If you used your eyes you would have noticed it says “1 of 1″ and they only made one pair for Coach K. Ha.
But all that aside, the concept is great for such an accomplishment, but the shoes are sort of lame in my opinion. That gray flannel is ugly.

i love the grey flannel, the tongue and the COACH K embroidered on the liner, but i’m really not feeling the “DUKE” and the “800″. those details cheapen the kicks a little for me. there had to have been a different (better) way to include these points without those huge cutout pieces that look like something my 2 year old daughter might have done with some construction paper and elmer’s glue.

Not a Duke fan, but you gotta respect Coach K and what he’s done…even though I liked the ones Chi made for himself better, the fellas over @ the IK still did a superb job on these…I REALLY need to pull some of my Nike strings and get in there sometime…

These are beautiful!
Not because of the fact I’m a Durham native (born & raised), as well as a Duke fan, but due to the quality of detail in the shoe AND that box?

I love it Matt…it’s like no one under 25 yrs of age reads any more, lmao…oh yeah the kix are hot…maybe one day they’ll make a pair for Chuck Swirsky when he commentates his 1,000th Raptor game. The detail on the Coach K’s r nutz & love how they incoporated the cadet suits!
