Throwback Thursday - Reebok Shaqnosis
Posted by Matt Halfhill | Apr 24, 2008 Shaq bounced out of Baton Rouge early for the NBA becoming the first pick of the ‘92 draft. Immediately he laced a sneaker deal with Reebok and immediately began tearing down backboards while wearing his Shaq signature shoes. One of the most recognizable shoes Shaq wore while on Team Reebok was the Shaqnosis. This hypnotizing upper was far ahead of its time for style, but fit right in with other mid 90’s Reebok basketball shoes including the Kamikaze and the Blast.
Diesel’s Shaqnosis’ were slightly different from those released to the general public. He laced up in a higher high top that gave the shoe more strength for his size 22 feet! (Now he is size 23) Never mind the unique style of the shoes, the tech was not sacrificed in any way. The shoes sported Reebok Hexalite cushioning in both the forefoot and the heel including the cup form that went up the sides a little bit for added heel support. Maybe remembered more for its looks, the Shaqnosis still has not been seen at retail doors since its release 14 years ago. Only time will tell if Reebok brings the Shaqnosis back, but we can only hope. Hypothetically, if they were to return, would you buy? |

lol good post matt, and no i would not buy, i think they are ugly
Apr 24, 2008 at 1:24 pm
I would buy them! They cant cost that much + I’ll get that Magic jersey from mitchell and ness
Apr 24, 2008 at 1:25 pm
Maybe for the right price.
Apr 24, 2008 at 1:26 pm
i think i would cop. and that mitchell and ness jersey is sick. especially the blue with the pin stripes. i almost copped that in december.
Apr 24, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Correct me if I am wrong, but weren’t these only $100 back in the day?
Apr 24, 2008 at 1:35 pm
One element will go if these are retroed.
Either the Dunkman (if Reebok drops them) or, could you imagine, the Vector (if Shaq brand drops them).
My money’s on the former, but they should definitely be done. And in some colorways that make known the capability of the wacky styling. Folks with epilepsy had to look away from these shoes.
Apr 24, 2008 at 1:36 pm
man shaq should have stayed wit reebok
Apr 24, 2008 at 1:37 pm
they would definitely see the clearance rack if they were released again…good post though Matt
Apr 24, 2008 at 1:38 pm
i would buy these…ive wanted them since back in the day lol
Apr 24, 2008 at 1:39 pm
you guys are trippin hard to not want to see these come back.
Reebok NEEDS something other than just the same old Pumps. Bring these, the Kemps, and the Blasts back and celebrate the GOOD days of reebok basketball.
Nice post as usual Matt. Thursday is always my favorite day of the week.
Apr 24, 2008 at 1:42 pm
KEEP EM COMING! I REMEMBER THESE. I WAS YOUNG BUT YEP, THESE ARE CLASSIC. wasn’t 100$ allot for that time though?
Apr 24, 2008 at 1:42 pm
sneakfreak I am with you
I would love for people’s ages to be put next to their names to be honest because i bet a lot of the hate is coming from youngins who think that if it aint a Jordan or and Air Force 1 its wack.
I am glad Matt rewinds things each week so some of you kids can learn about the shoes from the past that built this culture. Jordans and AF1s are important, true, but they def aren’t everything.
peace
Apr 24, 2008 at 1:47 pm
I honestly cant remember what the price was but it was def not much more than $100. That was a lot of scrap, but J’s were $135 then just to give perspective.
Reebok, I love the Pumps, but bring these back PLEASE!
Apr 24, 2008 at 1:49 pm
I still want these, the Shaq I and the Shawn Kemp Kamikaze.
Too many YOUNG PEOPLE trying to be “sneakerheads,” not knowing the past influences the future. Do your research, these are fresh.
Apr 24, 2008 at 2:11 pm
nice but i dont know if i would cop. would definitely get the kamikazes (which they need to drop again)
Apr 24, 2008 at 2:31 pm
wow. flashbacks. they were an cool idea, but if they were 2 b release again, they should do it limited pairs cause everybody would not cop these crazy. i know i wouldn’t.
Apr 24, 2008 at 2:48 pm
buy buy buy.
Waiting 4 the return of The Kamikaze….
Apr 24, 2008 at 3:05 pm
great throwback matt. you never cease to amaze me with what you got in the crates. I agree that some “young people” may not respect the past, but I’m certainly not young.. I hated these then and I still think they are god awful. I’m not trippin hard at all. not glad that phrase came back and would not be glad to see these come back.
Apr 24, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Them wack as hell, they was wack back in 96 too reebok was jus trying to do something unseen cause them AJ11 was killin the game
Apr 24, 2008 at 3:33 pm

Apr 24, 2008 at 3:41 pm

Apr 24, 2008 at 3:47 pm

Basketball kicks today have no flavor other than the endorsements attached to them. There’s a reason why the mid 90’s are considered the golden era of kicks. They were more than just kicks, they were like wearable art.
Art is interpretive, as long it invokes a reaction good or bad its done its job.
As opposed to if you look at the way things are now with Basketball kicks, for example I’m sure the tech in the Kobe line is great but the design of the shoes themselves is super plan and regular, if you’re not like on the gym floor and were to just rock them with jeans on the regular no one would look twice at them.
Apr 24, 2008 at 6:32 pm
would not buy em cause i cant be rockin shaqs id buy if they got no shaq sign on em
Apr 24, 2008 at 7:06 pm
14 years ago! wow, that’s a grip of time…..didn’t realize they were that old. Yeah, I don’t know about these, tho. I would pass just b/c they are hideous no matter how good the memories are that are associated with them.
Btw, Shaq should wear them in the playoffs! Go Suns!
Apr 24, 2008 at 8:22 pm
80’s-90’s had the best kicks
Apr 24, 2008 at 11:30 pm
Wow…blast from the past. I don’t think they should be retroed but if I came up on a deadstock pair i’d buy them quick!
Apr 25, 2008 at 12:03 am
Cool to see but wouldn’t buy if retroed.
Still love the Shaq logo though!
Apr 25, 2008 at 12:19 am

I LOVE THROWBACK THURSDAY
Thank Matt for hooking me up with these pictures.
Apr 25, 2008 at 12:56 am
ummm, interesting, maybe i would cop… they’re cool, and its the DIESEL…. fo sho’
Apr 25, 2008 at 1:46 am
The 2nd shaq shoe was most likely the cleanest of them all. The two that were release after the Shaqnosis were also cool. I bought the Reebok Preacher ( I think) in a black and Ice colorway. Get this, the shoe was made for NE pat wide reciever Irving Fryar but Shaq started wearing it. They just made it in Laker colors. Shaq’s next shoe looked a lot like the preacher. Many of his shoes went on sale which is how I had so many of them. I did’nt buy the Shaqnosis but I thought they were ok. The Haq II in the white black and royal blue= CLASSIC! I sold them to a guy in my dorm my Freshman year for used for 20 bucks….Damn Damn Damn!
Apr 25, 2008 at 1:47 am
Yes, Matt, these shoes were very affordable compared to the market back then.
Apr 25, 2008 at 2:59 am
Hey Reebok, bring back the last (2) pairs of signature shoes that was made for Shaq, the one’s with the “CLEAR” soles? I can’t think of the name of the 2 t-shoes? Dunks? or something like that? You need to bring those babies back??? I’m a BIG LAKERS Fan but, I really loved those 2 t-shoes!!! I still have Shaq’s very last signature shoe from Reebok. It’s a classic t-shoe now, so I don’t rock’em anymore!!! But would love to cop another pair? Ya hurd me???
Apr 25, 2008 at 3:14 am
“Hey Reebok, bring back the last (2) pairs of signature shoes that was made for Shaq, the one’s with the “CLEAR†soles? I can’t think of the name of the 2 t-shoes?”

Apr 25, 2008 at 6:34 am
The Shawn Kemps White, black, and green. But i would have to disagree if Reebok was to release these maybe a year and a half from now near the september month i can really see them coming back. The Pumps are kinda getting old it’s been about 7 years now. Lets move on Reebok.
Apr 26, 2008 at 3:09 am
HARD
Apr 26, 2008 at 4:27 am
Nice post! Noticed that you’ve done big man shoes lately (Robinson, Ewing, Shaq). In that light, you think you can feature what was on Olajuwon, Mutumbo, and Mourning’s feet? That’d be sick!
Apr 26, 2008 at 1:30 pm
RETRO THE KAZIEZ
Apr 26, 2008 at 2:59 pm

I have a pair of these only wore once. I am from UK and went to America and these were the 1st pair of shoes I bought for the sport. Think I paid over $100 for em, but it was the height of Shaq’s career.
I am going to be putting them on Ebay this week, so if anyone is interested, e-mail me stevoal@hotmail.com
Sep 1, 2008 at 12:01 am
all hataz need 2 stop the trash talking … Talking all that trash and yet when they see someone with some shaqnosis they necks be breaking and then they be saying to themselves damn I wish I had these.
P.S. 2 the fool who said he wouldn’t wear the nosis because of the logo…hmm hello dummy that’s what makes them shaqnosis…get your weight up…you probably them pop wearing fusion jordans and the fake ones by the way.

Nov 13, 2008 at 7:35 am
they should bring back reebok blast, icepick and kamikaze
Jan 1, 2009 at 8:54 am
i had a pair when i visited the us in ‘94 and they are the best trainer ever..strong,comfortable,supportive and the best looking trainer ever! forget air max 95 cos these are the real real and if they bring them back i’ll be first in the queue
Jan 19, 2009 at 12:11 am
i had a pair about 12 years back i loved them! so yes if i can find a size 11 US of these bad boys i would pay big dollars!!
Jan 25, 2009 at 10:36 am
I have to echo many of the recent comments. I had a pair of these when I was 6 or 7 years old and they still are, by far, the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. If I could find a original pair in mint condition, size 15 4E or size 16, i’d give up a couple hundred easily. If Reebok reissued these, I would probably buy three or four pair (one for walking and the rest for ball).
Feb 2, 2009 at 9:18 am
Hey,
I designed the Shaqnosis…I’m glad people still remember it and I would love to see it coe back!
J
Feb 28, 2009 at 2:47 pm

Apr 2, 2009 at 5:25 pm
Sick! I used to own a pair when they were first released in the UK for £80. I’ve managed to buy a fresh pair off e-bay in my size! Still in 2 mindz whether to wear them or sell them on…
Apr 14, 2009 at 9:58 am
Reebok did very well during the 90s. I think the brand even managed to put up a fight then with Nike, and was way ahead of Adidas and Converse. Seeing the Shaqnosis, Blast, Kamikaze II, Preacher, and Iverson as well as Hexalites, always made the broke gradeschooler in me, cry, cos I didn’t get the chance to own one. Reebok should be brilliant enought to roll out and revive the pairs that made its vector logo stand out.
Apr 22, 2009 at 5:40 am
i saw a pair of shaqnosis on ebay at a cost of 400$. i would buy one if it’d be cheaper
May 3, 2009 at 10:56 pm

Jun 8, 2009 at 11:43 am

Jun 8, 2009 at 12:42 pm

I dont think Reebok wants to make money anymore…there losing creativity/style…
If they wanted make money they woulda ben retroed these along with the Kemp joints…
Curious: has Reebok ever retroed anything?
Jun 25, 2009 at 9:24 pm
