Throwback Thursday - Original Adidas Attitude Ewing
Posted by Matt Halfhill | May 8, 2008 Patrick Ewing was the first pick in the 1985 NBA Draft and despite some time off due to injuries in his first season, he still was able to average 20 points, 9 boards, and 2 blocks earning him Rookie of the Year honors.
Adidas wasted no time to release a signature shoe for their new young star after seeing the success that Nike enjoyed with MJ and his signature shoe. The Adidas Attitude was Ewing’s signature shoe for the 1986 season that came in a wide variety of colors, but none quite as timeless as the these to match his Knicks uniform. The Attitude was a popular shoe not just on court, but was quickly adopted by the hip hop scene. Back in the mid-80s like most of Adidas’s top basketball shoes, these were manufactured in France. The shoe has returned this decade in this color way as well as many others minus the Ewing logo on the tongue as Patrick left Adidas after only a few years to start his own line of shoes that we have featured on prior Throwback Thursday’s. It is hard to show by photos just how well these shoes were made. The leather is incredibly thick and sturdy. Just like car buffs will tell you, “they sure don’t make them like they used to.” |

Still have a retro pair of these released in ‘99…being a die-hard NYer these kicks are easily in my top 5 of all time.
May 8, 2008 at 1:48 pm
NYer or not, these are one of the best all time. I have a pair of the un-NY retro’s from ‘05 or ‘06 that have a few changes to them color wise, but I am still after the ‘03 skate low tops.

Over 20 years later those look like they’re fresh out the box. I didn’t even think they had any wear until I saw the outsoles. Those things survived well for that long.

May 8, 2008 at 2:25 pm

adidas b’ball shoes in the 80s-90s were always classics. gotta have a soft spot for those.

I’m just astounded by how well these things have kept. Compared with the yellowing/cracking you get on most Nike jawns these really do still look exceptional.
May 9, 2008 at 4:54 pm
I have the funky colorway of these from 06.
May 9, 2008 at 9:12 pm
These are SERIOUS BUSINESS. What is this now, 8 weeks in a row of straight heat!

I got the retro of these that dropped in footaction. When I wear them, people are always bugging out asking me where I got them. Being that I’m in BK, a lot of the older heads start getting sentimental when they see them.
Anyway, dope sneaker. If people didn’t sweat Nike so hard, they would see that Adidas make dope ish too and the quality on their LE kicks is better than Nike imo. Plus, they really be limited when they say they are.
May 10, 2008 at 11:06 am
the reason these shoes are still looking good for their age is because they were made in france sorry to say but the quality or these kicks are better than any Og Jordan… i still got a pic of me rocking these as a youngin plus Pat Ewing is my fav basketball player of all time… REPPIN JAMAICA!

Dec 5, 2008 at 3:21 pm
I had the dark blue, royal blue and orange and neutral Conductors. I only knew of the Rivalry and Conductors. When was the Attitude shoe sold to the public? Also does anyone know where to get the Ewing sweatshirts and the other Adidas Special sweat shirts from ‘86-’88? EX Cycling, Silverado Spike, etc…
