Neon Air Max 95 Comparison
Posted by Matt Halfhill | Jun 11, 2008 About a month ago Nike surprised us all with an unannounced release of the Neon Air Max 95 online at Nike.com. Initially when I saw the product number and photo of the shoe, I saw that it was just like the Air Max 95 Neon’s that released before the History of Air pack that had the “old” air bubbles. For those who have only been buying Air Max’s for the past two years, starting with the History of Air pack, several models of Air Max sneakers underwent an Air unit change with smaller bubbles and thus a thicker foam portion of the midsole.
When we received our pair we were shocked to see that the shoes did not have the Air units as shown online at Nike but rather had the “new” Air units that were smaller.  We pulled out a pair that released before the Air unit change that took place in 2006 so that you could see the difference. Apparently the reason for the change was done to use more environmentally friendly gases in the Air Max units, but how come the shrinkage (shout out to George Costanza) or new shape? We have posted both of the pairs for you to compare the old vs. new. The Neon Air Max 95 has started delivering to quickstrike doors across the country with no set release date. If you wish to grab the classic Air Max, your best bet is to get in touch with your local shop asap. |

First!!!!
There hot tho!!
Jun 11, 2008 at 10:08 pm
let’s be honest…how many people are actually going to be doing some hard core running in these shoes? how much of a difference is the change going to make for anyone?
if you can do something good, why not?
Jun 11, 2008 at 10:09 pm
i pulled out the pair i actually baught back in 95 and the air pockets say 25 psi on the side as did the rest of my air maxes from back in the day. the new school ones have nothing on the ones released back in 1995. plus the neon was a little darker.

THANK YOU NICE KICKS!
Finally I have something to show to all the morons who work at shoe stores when I tell them that Nike ruined the Air Max 95.
johnny qb, the cushioning is very different! I live in NYC so I am walking a ton and on my feet all day. I can personally attest to there being a major difference in comfort as well as the new bubbles being so small look so fake imo.
I actually have a pair from 2004 and another on ice. I still am Air Max 95 free since the HOA. I have been on boycott for 2.5 years since they changed up that air unit.

Fire! got to get em’
Jun 11, 2008 at 10:46 pm
I LIKE THE OLD ONES BETTER
Jun 11, 2008 at 11:49 pm
tell you the truth they look d@mn near the same, i dont know about performance but looks are not that different
Jun 12, 2008 at 12:03 am
it should be cheaper then. lol. cut 15-20 bucks off. no but seriously the shoe looks good n all but to whoever thinks ists no difference, you try a pair of the old ones on. it was heavenly.
the more air the more i’ll wear
Jun 12, 2008 at 12:20 am
Never had any 95’s but I def will get them depending on the price. I NEED SOME MONEY! Lol. I do think that the old ones look more comfortable, and the old bubble looks better too, the new one looks foggy. When do the release?
Jun 12, 2008 at 12:22 am
If you gonna be doing some serious walking, running, or training it might make a difference. Most of the sneaks bought by Everyday people or SneakerHeads or Collectors ain’t gonna be used for what they was made for just like most people with Suv’s that neva take them off road its just for what they like & the look of it or looks they gonna get. As for me these are a must have.

Yo in 95 I was 6. I couldnt tellya the the differnce. I still like’em
Jun 12, 2008 at 5:27 am
man all the kids had these in elementary school when i was younger. time to play catch up i guess. lol
Jun 12, 2008 at 6:19 am
Although the toe area is darker and it might not be as comfortable as the original. If you don’t own a pair of these at all here’s you chance now to get them. If you are a so called sneakerhead these are a must have in you collection. You never know if these will release again. I hoping for more colorways like the gray and orange or gray and red so I can cop.
Jun 12, 2008 at 7:25 am
I knew there was a difference! It would explain why my “Human Torch” AM 95’s fit so comfy and my “Running Man” AM 95’s fit much more snug.
I’m still copping. No doubt. One of the hardest colorways in the history of ever.
Jun 12, 2008 at 7:32 am
Air Max 95 neon/gray = 1 of the great ones!
Even though the difference is very slight it still causes pains to those who have been faithful to this shoe since the beginning…I’m gonna try my hardest to get a pair with the fat bubble…

Can’t quibble too much about the changes here. I actually like the switch up to black on the new kicks on the toebox and bottom of the upper.
Problem is that I LOVE these shoes, but they are stupidly pricey here in the UK. £110 just feels like too much, particularly when you could pick up say a pair of AM1s AND some Lights for the same cost if you shop around right.
Jun 12, 2008 at 9:41 am
Yo thanks for the comparison. Nike def got cheesy on these new ones. Didn’t like that they changed the dark grey to black and the Nike Air logo on the back looks bad too. Thank god i still have a fresh pair still in the box from 03′. I still have a pair from 97 but the air bubble is dogged up and cracked. I don’t think Nike will ever stop retroing these. But I do want to see them bring back the grey/royal & grey/orange 95s.
Jun 12, 2008 at 10:00 am
thanks for more beautiful pics Matt. I’m still sweating that we’re probably not going to see these in Portland, the home of Nike. and I’m not hot on paying resell for them. all I can do is pray for a NDC restock..
Jun 12, 2008 at 10:01 am
still good 2 me
Jun 12, 2008 at 10:01 am

^^^BKost^^^ yeah skecher stoled the idia fron NIKE and ever since that I’m done with am’s I rock 90’s but no 95’s
Jun 12, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Am I the only one who thinks the new ones look better? And I own a pair of the OGs! The new bubble is more streamlined - the OG bubble looks sloppy.
Jun 12, 2008 at 5:18 pm
I got the 2005 History of air release and I just ordered the 2008 release,It’s not that big of a deal to me.I have not recieved my new pair yet so I don’t know how they feel But I had to cop cause my old pair is scuffed up.
Jun 12, 2008 at 9:44 pm
does this count as throwback thursday? lol
Jun 13, 2008 at 11:52 am
In general the old ones were better simply put. but then again isn’t that what we are used too from nike?
Jun 14, 2008 at 8:28 am
want 2 cop badly
Jun 16, 2008 at 8:55 pm
Beautiful shoes. Nothing else to really say about them.
And, I’m talking about both pairs, too. The new ones are clean as hell, and they’re easily in the same league as the OG pair.
Jun 17, 2008 at 12:15 pm
new or old they are both a classic and of course I have em ; )
Jun 17, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Just cop 2 pairs today here in da eastcoast at EXPRESSIONS. EXTRA EXTRA FRESH!
Jun 18, 2008 at 5:32 pm
Got em and im happy
Jun 28, 2008 at 12:27 am
I WAS HE FIRST PERSON WITH THESE BACK IN HIGH SCHOOL
Sep 7, 2008 at 1:24 pm
I definitely agree with #5: the new ones look like fakes. Smaller bubbles and reinforced junctions between bubbles are defining traits of cheap knock offs imo, so I’ll pass.
Damn shame… Here’s to hope they’ll get it right next time.
