Air Obama T-shirt
Posted by Matt Halfhill | Jul 31, 2008 Political rockstar Barack Obama has gotten face time in virtually every imaginable way, but lately a slew of creative T-shirt makers have created a series of clever ways to promote the Democratic Nominee. This time around Obama get’s some love from Encinitas, CA based Robust Flavor with a shirt that combines two of the most powerful individuals out of Chicago termed Air Obama.
The T-shirt is available now at Robust Flavor’s online shop for $30. If you are a fan of this shirt, I would strongly recommend purchasing asap. Something we learned from the “Nike Head” T-shirt is that Nike’s legal team doesn’t take the summers off. Consider this one of the rare chances to get a T-shirt that sports a “Jumpman” that WILL fit a normal human body. Has anyone figured out who JB shirts are supposed to fit?! Hung, I think you forgot to add the beginning of your name, “William.”
First off, you act as though Obama sat down with Robust and talked about creating this shirt. Incase you didn’t know, we’re in the midst of something MAJOR right now… a potential president of African American descent.
So whether you know this or not, the potential BUZZ off that, along with the fact that there was even a Black man in the Presidential race to begin with, drew major press, not only with American voters, but designers, who also have a big way of getting their clothing noticed along with getting their political views out at the same time.
Shirts like “Barack is the Future” (which I own) that’s a play off of the “Back to the Future” logo; “BaRock the Vote” (another that I own), that plays off of the famous slogan of MTV’s “Rock the Vote.”
So publicity is a given… it’s not his fault. Somewhere you missed that memo.

It’s sad when a “Presidential” candidate has to get this much publicity… Instead of voting for ideas, vote for Air Obama. Cause his head is on air jordan’s symbol of all things basketball… lol… America as we know it is in trouble.

being a big dude myself i kinda agree with the jb brand t-shirts looking wierd but i dont appreciate the fat jokes but i see ppl who buy jb t-shirts as an exuse for being a scrub n not knowing how to color coordinate your shirts with your shoes…
BTW loving that shirt i think it could go pretty nice with the fours from the package

This is just giving more things for mcain to criticize. Leave politics and fashion where they are nike please.
Jul 31, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Jordan/JB used to be a “Flagship/Premium” brand. Funny, yet sad.

“why can’t Nike come up with creative stuff like this?” - jibbycanoe
As for JB’s lack of creativity on the clothing front, I can’t speak 100%. There are some pieces from the Spring 2009 that are refreshing, but still lacking big time compared to their footwear.
Mark Smith is soon to be (or now is) the Creative Director for JB and there have been hints that he wants to create a “premium” or “flagship” line for the brand. If this means carefully constructed shoes and vaulted pieces of clothing, I am very much in favor.
Nike and Jordan have mastered the market of selling nostalgia through shoes, but why have they not done this with clothing?!
Do you have any idea how many thrift stores I have been to looking for a late 80’s Nike Air Jordan crew neck?
As for making a shirt like this, I don’t think Nike would want to potentially alienate approx half of the country by producing a politically charged clothing item. Nike is just in the business of selling shoes and clothing, not picking world leaders.

I like it!!! VOTE FOR OBAMA…gotta get one to go wit my blk/infrared 6’s.

why can’t Nike come up with creative stuff like this?
Jul 31, 2008 at 4:22 pm
LOL!
Obama - In the words of the *brrrrrrrrrrr* Birdman: Get’cho shine on…
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanh! (lol)
Jul 31, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Nice shirt, but I wouldn’t buy it. I stopped buying JB shirts anyway, and the JumpObama just makes me feel like I’m still a walking JB advertisement, which is part of the reason I stopped wearing the shirts, along with the odd fit, and lackluster designs. C’mon, a shirt….with a picture of a shoe on it. No wait! Instead we’ll put shoe….boxes on it! I got tired of it.
Jul 31, 2008 at 3:10 pm
The body of JB shirts is VERY wide, I agree, but the sleeves are uber long like JMoney said. I have a few shirts from many years ago and they fit ok, but like said earlier, I rarely take the time to even look at the clothing since I know that it’s not going to fit at all.
Jul 31, 2008 at 3:10 pm
i gotta feeling this will sell out quick. the price isn’t bad either. i dont usually like buying from these underground kazbah brands as karamaloop calls them because they like to charge you 50-60 for these t shirts that aren’t that special. but i like this
Jul 31, 2008 at 3:10 pm
the size …you think this shirt sucks and you guy’z are complaining about the size WoW!!! I thinks it’s dope
and koo.. easy! it’s that easy
Jul 31, 2008 at 3:07 pm
…
not digging the fat comment
at all
ha
Jul 31, 2008 at 3:05 pm
these are kind of funny. being 16 i dont pat attention to politics due to the inability to vote, but this is kinda funny. And true with the JB shirts not fitting anyone, there so wide and short, maybe to fit a MJ whose getting fatter…..
Jul 31, 2008 at 3:04 pm
LMAO!
Yes, I have no idea what body dimensions are supposed to look good in Jordan Brand clothing. 4 or 5 years ago the T-shirts were decent, but now the sizing is so off that I don’t even bother looking or trying the ish on.
I think you are supposed to be like 6′8″, 250lbs, but have super long arms.
