Reseller Report: “Marty McFly” Nike Hyperdunk

Nike Hyperdunk McFly Reseller ReportNot surprisingly over the weekend lineups were long and crowds were packed for the limited release of the “Marty McFly” Nike Hyperdunks at the House of Hoops and Niketowns in New York and Los Angeles. Like with many limited releases, hype and buzz is generated for the product, but controversy seems to also follow.

Nike and Foot Locker instituted a “1 pair per customer” policy for this release of the Hyperdunks that led to clever line stuff tactics including one individual bringing their 4 year old child to be a “customer” for the shoes. Not surprisingly, a few days after the big release, many pairs are listed on eBay for sale fetching prices much higher than the $200 sticker price.

Keeping in mind that we live in a free country with a free market, what are your thoughts of reselling? What do you think could be done to help curb it? Is there anything wrong with it at all? Speak your mind after the jump.

no doubt…the kid thing was OD. He’s an employee who got 5 pairs. Another employee got 6. You do the math.

  2. Mr. Willson

IMO, think ‘re-sellers’ are as awesome as a drunk-driving racist. :P

On the flip side, however, if someone is gonna be dumb enough to pay $2,500 for a $200 sneaker, then someone will be dumb enough to sell a $200 sneaker for $2,500.

  3. E-MAN

i completely HATE resellers that put something on ebay like a day after they got it. they wait in line in front of people that would truly love to have the shoe, and wear it. it just shows me that some people in the sneaker game aren’t doing it for the love of kicks anymore, just greed.

  4. pawn80

i think reselling sucks… people line up just to make a profit.. go on any sneaker reselling site… all the hard to get on opening day kicks are still available in every size for a premium… it’s bs to us collectors that want them for retail, and find out that a group of 4 yr old “buyers” are sellin their size 10 for 2g’s on ebay.
    (think i’ve been burned a few times? ;) )
But this is a world that turns fast… last week its the mcflys.. this week is the 4/19 CDP… i’ll have an extra pair of 4/19s size 10 that my 5 yr old nephew doesn’t fit in yet… anyone wanna buy for $400? J/P don’t reply to that.

  5. Mgeezi

I think its all good…. If they went through and got the shoes, waited in the lines etc. They deserve to sell them at w/e price they want too…And besides If their is more demand for the shoe then obivously the price is going to rise too..

  6. sneakFREAK

poetic justice to all those resellers would be if Finishline “restocked” today with full size runs of those.

lol, I would love it if that happened. You know that resellers on eBay must hate Matt’s ass for posting those restock updates while they are trying to gouge someone on eBay for something that released over the weekend lol.

  7. D Sides

I dont have a problem with reselling. if you a big enuf sucka to drop 2 stacks on sneakers you the dumby rite???

  8. nikeindabutt

I can’t say i’m “mad” at re-sellers but I think MOST of us will agree that it’s driven shoe prices through the roof and gotten out of hand (can I get an AMEN?)…

This is not gonna be remedied as long as people are turning a huge profit but the following tactics by retailers would help curb outrageous price gouging:

    1) Allow purchase of only 1 pair per customer …IN YOUR ACTUAL SIZE!!!
    2) Allow purchase by individuals 15 yrs. and up (NO 4 yr. old on line for 12 hrs…isn’t that abuse???)

  9. pawn80

I don’t think the point is “if your a sucka to spend 2g on em, then your a dummy” thats obvious.

The point is… your online ready to get your pair for retail, cuz you like to collect/wear sneakers.. the person in front of you wants to buy 3 pair to sell 2 of em.. the store runs out of stock right before you and you know that the guy in front is just a re-sellin rat… now you…. the long time sneaker collector, would have to shell out 2g just to get your hands on a pair of kicks that this guy in front bought for $200 and doesn’t even want… he’s just a hyper tryin to make a quick buck… it’s bs… re-sellers suck..

MOMMY NEVER BOUGHT ME JORDANS!!!! DADDY DOESNT LOVE ME!!! WAAA WAAA

  10. Pete Skeet

    I got these cheeseburgers man!!

  11. pawn80

    nikeindabutt
    your right, supply & demand

good idea on the selling tactics… now to convince retailers
    (hell yeah its abuse, haha)

  12. stylez4dayz

dont hate on the resell game . . . i got 3 pairs . . . you do the math lmaoooooo

  13. claremont

I don’t like resellers in general, but one positive for them is that they give people who live in other parts of the country or world who could never buy them otherwise. Not justifying it, just pointing that out.

Ultimately its Nike’s fault for releasing so few of them.

  14. Travis

I appreciate re-sellers to a certain extent meaning I appreciate em because if I miss a release a few years later I can still copp em but I hate the rediculous prices they put on em like 400 for a pair of Jordan XI’s is absurd!!

  15. Jon Blaze

reselling does suck, but the prices would never reach that amount if there werent dummies out there paying that much..thats the only reason y it exists

  16. JAR

It’s Nike’s fault for supporting this reselling market with ultra exclusives. It probably cost Nike 30 bucks to make each shoe, and if they made this a GR OF COURSE people would buy it, but they love creating this sort of frenzy. It doesn’t make any new fans, though, and I’m pretty upset at them.

  17. Boogie

If they bought the shoes and then they can sell them if they want…I wouldn’t buy no shoes over 150 anyway lol…and if I was in line for shoes and the dude in front of me took the last three pair I might have to punch em lol. But forreal I think dude would get robbed here lol.

Why would they sell shoes to a five year old? That some dumb…

  18. Dixon Syder

It really is supply & demand…nothing more nothing less. If I didn’t have to work a f/t job to support my mortgage, car insurance, food, keep my lady friends entertained, etc…I could spend an extra 48 hours in a line waiting to buy $200 kicks 1st too. But I don’t…so should I hate on the guy that does? You think I’m impressed I couldn’t get the carmines & now the 1 shoe goes for more than the CD pack? Hell naw…but if it weren’t for eBay, a lot of kicks would just be a distance desire for us. So whatcha gonna do? Police lines? Charge eBay members for price gouging once you can trace the tag?

  19. opus138

I’m an AJ fan, and I appreciate the news this site provides. It’s fun to see folks geek out over shoes I geeked out on in 7th and 8th grade and I now geek over.

The irony is, it’s sites like this and the folks that frequent sites like this that feed into the hype that feeds the ridiculous price sought by resellers. And if no one was buying, they wouldn’t be selling.

I imagine some of the buyers are folks not on the coasts who simply don’t have access to buy on site. But, again, if they weren’t willing to buy at that price, people couldn’t sell them at that price.

I mean, think about it, it’s the same as a baseball card. If you found a sought-after rookie card in a pack, it cost you $2. But you can turn around and sell it for $500 if someone’s willing to buy it. That’s your choice.

They hype is created, sites like this grow out of the hype, the hype grows more, and so do the prices.

The real question is, why is there actually surprise/outrage in all of this?

  20. Nice Kicks

“The real question is, why is there actually surprise/outrage in all of this?” - opus138

I think the outrage comes more from the tactics employed than the fact that a kid waits in line for 48 hours to earn $1000.

I do have to say that I am surprised how long some people have waited in lines before to make hardly any money when you break it down to $/hour.

  21. Hobby Rock

It is unfortunate that many sneaker enthusiasts - at this point - will probably never get their hands on a pair of mcfly’s, since the re-sale value is so absurdly high. However, this is a common trait initially seen through the kidrobot dunny collectors, Star wars figure collectors, even as far back as baseball card collecting - upperdeck, pokemon, D&D etc. The truth of the matter is that, there are many negative factors working against the general release: WAS available in two states, limited quantities, and 10x resale value. In terms of resale value, I think it’s understable to a certain extent. If I had two pairs of the mcfly hyperdunk, I would have sold it for 800 tops, even with a possible ebay offer of 650. Those who own the sneaker and who are intending to sell it, obviously have the upperhand…but are still very unfair and very inconsiderate to sneaker enthusiasts everywhere.

  22. BrooklynNYC3000

Wow, the resale price are Bananas
Spending 2 grand for these? I rather invest in that money than spending it on sneakers. I love sneakers, but geeze 2,000 for a pair of sneakers is crazy!!!

  23. DeceasedSole

It’s bullsh*t. Resellers ruin everything, they increased HYPE, so now everything’s overpriced. 2000+ for this shoe is ridiculous.

  24. KoLLateral

respect the shoe… just buy yo kicks to wear them…and if their hot…buy 2 pair and let the other sit in ur house.

  25. Jerronimo

I love this site!! But I agree, resellers are squezzing the life out of the shoe game. The illest shoes are rarely seen on the street anymore….well in Seattle that is. Peeps buy all the kicks and dump them on ebay for profit. I am not hatin tho, might have to make some money off of my collection someday. Don’t know if I can rape peeps for thousands when I payed less than $200..We’ll see when that happens tho. Money talks!

  26. nikeindabutt

    *moment of silence*

R.I.P. - the days when people would cop a sweet pair to actually sport them.

    *pours out some liquor*

  27. Hyperdunkman

If somebody waited on line just as long as anybody else and they got their sneaker, they have the right to do anything they want with the sneaker..and that includes selling to somebody who did not have the oppurtunity to buy the sneaker from retail. But about bringing your kids to the line right before the store open was total bs…but thats just how it is and people cant do anything about it but just complain. Hyperdunks are the craziest kix out right now, if you dont wanna complain about not getting your pair and about people camping out just to sell then how about you start camping out a little earlier than just a day before the release….c’mon its hyperdunks people…get with the program, we not talking about some bs SB’s here

  28. opus138

“I think the outrage comes more from the tactics employed than the fact that a kid waits in line for 48 hours to earn $1000.” -Nice Kicks

If the hype is what it is, and people know that they’ll be able to turn around these kicks for bigtime dollars, I don’t understand the surprise. A guy bringing his mini-me down so that he can cop a pair of super-hyped up kicks that the kid could probably sleep inside of is just a guy looking to make some bucks off of an overly hyped shoe.

Here’s the other piece of irony, though: if it weren’t for limited releases, kick fanatics wouldn’t be all that into certain shoes. If everyone had a chance at the McFly’s, for example, it wouldn’t make them a collectable shoe, right? If everyone was rockin’ the ‘00 Olympic AJs downtown, collectors wouldn’t be bragging that they had them at home in a dust free, climate controlled glass walled humidor.

Sneakerheads *need* this kind of hype to justify their collection, let’s face it. If a sneakerhead was bragging to his friends that he had the McFly’s when in fact the McFly’s were a general wide release, his friends would say, “so what.” But, because they are rare…..

So, how do you stop this kind of thing? Make ever sneaker a wide release and remove the collectability of the kicks. End of story.

  29. Nice Kicks

    “*moment of silence*

R.I.P. - the days when people would cop a sweet pair to actually sport them.

*pours out some liquor*” - nikeindabutt

I agree. I do have to say though that these kids are only robbing themselves of the enjoyment of wearing something that turns heads faster than a man with 3 heads.

  30. E.Fontenette

I hate resellers but, they are smart. They take advantage of the addiction that many of us sneakerheads suffer from. Is it right to charge an ungodly amount of money for a shoe? Hell No! Is it smart? Hell yes! Me personally, I love the chase and love my sneakers therefore would never re-sell. Most of those re-sellers are employees anyway, just trying to get over on us beacuse they get first dibbs on them. And I agree with Jerronimo, re-sellers are squeezing the life out of the game and Nike is helping them with these mad limited releases. This is a crazy game…..

  31. Soloflight22

long gone are the days when you copped joints by traveling to local sneaker stores by train, or whatever means…we live in a new world, but there are still lots of kids who don’t have computers and still set trends…re-selling is part of the game i guess, but don’t let the game be part of you….set trends don’t follow.. liquor poured out….

  32. Biggins

I was all over these shoes when I saw the design, but now I’m just sick of them. I had no idea they would be re-selling for $1,500 - 2K. Its difficult to blame a specific entity for this mess…but it does need to be addressed. I remember when I was a kid, getting a pair of Air Jordans was something I either worked for or was blessed with around Christmas time and I wore them and loved them. But now its like people just care about “limited” this & “quickstrike” that, and the word overssaturation comes to mind. I know there are a lot sneaker lovers out there who loved these shoes but wont get a pair. Personally, it kind of pisses me off. These shoes went from good-looking & creative to annoying. I just hope nobody is spending $2,000K on these instead of their kids medical bill…

  33. opus138

“I agree. I do have to say though that these kids are only robbing themselves of the enjoyment of wearing something that turns heads faster than a man with 3 heads.” -Nice Kicks.

    Amen.

I was rockin’ the Collezione Carmine’s a couple of weeks ago while out at dinner with my wife, and a couple of folks came up and was asking about them - “hey, aren’t those the old Jordans?” “Where’d you get those?”

Shoes were made to be worn - wear them.

  34. Giraud35

i see it both ways. some times you live close to a store where a limited quickstrike happens. if you wait in line for 48 hours you have every right to sell them on ebay for 2 grand. but if you stand in line for 48 hours just sell them you need to get a life. let some one who is actually going to wear them pay 200 dollars. the parents who use their 4 year old kid to buy size 13 sneakers are horrible.

nikeindabut is right not only should you have to be 15 and up you should have to show them one of the shoes on your feet and what ever the size that shoe is you can buy one pair in that same size.

  35. damnneardeadstock

as much as people hate reselling, it’s not illegal. i’m just mad i don’t live in an area that gets this type of release so i can resell. don’t blame the reseller, blame nike for forced rarity, which induces reselling. if they just released the hyperdunk as a quickstrike, we wouldn’t be seeing this problem.

  36. gdarden

I don’t have a problem with people reselling sneakers. I do have a problem with people who buy these kicks and mark them up higher than what the regular guy is willing to pay or can afford to pay for them.

  37. cain

i live in new zealand and if there wasnt reselling i wouldnt ba able to get alot of kicks, however when shoes are resold like the mcflys i still wont be able to cop these cause they way out of my price range.

reselling is ok when it not over priced, good point above gdarden

  38. captain zach

i guess im missing the point. can someone explain to me 1) wuts so gud about these shoes? & 2) y r ppl actually paying two stacks for them? i mean $2000???thats absurd

  39. gank

what gets to me is that “purists” and i mean people who actually buy the shoes and wear the shoes sometimes are priced out. sneaker releases are becoming like tickets to the superbowl or a big concert you wanna go to and these big marketers actually pay people to get on these lines and cop shoes, then the y put them on the ebay for like a 400% increase i mean 2,500$ for a pair of kicks that cost 200$ retail? the shoe game is getting like the housing market. so now we have another beast to contend with the “shoe flipper” and this can only be stopped by us the true consumer, we have the power, remeber in the early 90’s when people just got tired of jay’s that they were found in 19.99$ bins all across the country i think its got to come to that again. the market will correct itself eventually but if we collectively look at a shoe and don’t buy into the hype we can keep the prices reasonably low. but dang!!!! i really wanted a pair just to wear cuz i love kicks. but in parting i can offer one piece of advice. “only buy what you like” that means don’t let the masses dictate what is and what isn’t.

  40. Nice Kicks

    cain,

I think that it would be a good thing to distinguish between reselling shoes that one purchases at a discount or clearance and those who plug up lines at release to block others from purchase.

I supplemented my income when I was in college by purchasing shoes on clearance, sitting on them for a while, and then reselling them. But never would I sit out there on release date to take pairs away from others who wanted them just for the sake of making a few bucks. All the shoes that I resold the public had PLENTY of time to purchase.

  41. biggrizzly

as a retailer and a fan of shoes myself. i hate resellers. it takes the fun out of the game. i personally wanted a pair of McFly’s sinc i was a kid and saw the movie in THEATRES. and alot of kids out there bought them because of hype, not genuine love of the shoe. its like when you go to SB stores and they charge double the amount for the shoe just because of hype. what about that skateboarding kid who actually wants that shoe but can’t get it because the store is either over charging, or some fat, virgin lame decides he wants to cop it just to make a couple bucks. THIS is why i just look at people in disgust sometimes. what happened to the love? i remember goin into stores and seeing the Recon AF1 steel toe joints on SALE because people thought they were ugly, but now, thanks to all these online sites hyping stuff up, the game is dead. its almost like hiphop, its become more about making money than the actual love for the shoe. that is why i was kinda sad hearing DJ Clark Kent talk about why he made the shoes how he did and turn around and see dudes raping cats on ebay. seriously, i blame the internet, word up. because real talk, its TELLING people what is cool instead of people DECIDING what is cool. its TELLING people what to look for instead of them CHOOSING whether they wanna cop it or not.

  42. biggrizzly

and damnneardeadstock, you are wrong. i remember before the whole HYPE thing, i was able to go ONLINE and cop a pair of the Huf AM1’s for only 200, now, them joints are over a 1000. and the 200 was the resale and it was a hyperstrike. nike has been making rare shoes forever, so its not nikes fault. its the greed of the resellers and retailers. i was able to go to Miami and cop my Tiffany’s at retail for 79. but when i went to VA, the retail prices in that store, an official SB account, was 225. i remember goin into Finishline and copping Persians for 40 bucks because people didn’t like them, now because of hype, they are gonna be sold out the second time. and that was a general release.

  43. greenmaker24

i hate these sneakers but i also hate reselling cuz the people who buy more than 1 pair 2 resell r taking that pair away from another person who wanted those badly and then they raise the price too

  44. sb

I quit the shoe game! ..no but really i think about quitting sometimes its just all hype now EVERYTHING IS SHIRTS, HATS!! wtf?!?!! i cant even cop a pair premium SB’s because ther is always some fat guy and a skinny guy thats first and second in line to get the shoe you want. It pisses me off !! if you aint going to wear them DONT BUY THEM!!

  45. echo

ALL RESELLERS SHOULD CHOKE AND DIE.

  46. sneakFREAK

    biggrizzly,

I couldn’t agree with you more. The internet has been good AND bad for kicks. I too remember in 2004 grabbing the Neon 95s and Crepe Air Maxes for $39.99. Shoot, they even had the twisted prep trainers for $19.99!!!

The net has caused a ton of ppl to buzz about some shoes, but its also been a good thing for these kids to learn about the shoes at their local store. I guess in the end I would say that the net and sites like Nice Kicks have been a very positive thing for sneakers, but of course there are several examples of negative side effects.

  47. mic check 212

    echo,

didn’t you used to hustle early releases?! :-/

  48. XanGelicO

    no hate on re-sellers~
cuz i never buy from them, its useless to complaint the re-sellers.
no matter wht u do, they r still there, just like the drug dealers.
come on, dont talk about greedy, everybody is greedy isn’t it? think deep, greedy is one of our instinct!
at the re-seller view, if u can earn some extra money from wht u luv, y not?!
at the buyer view, hell yes they r hateful.
but everything is two sided, think opposite way, u cant kill them all, u cant complaint them. u can do nothing about it.
then just let them be, if u didnt get luck on lining up, and the price r way too much from re-seller. then it means the fate not letting u to get one.
IMO, 1 principle on sneaker game, if the price is unacceptable, forget about it; there r too many crazy sneakers out there, 1 person cant collect them all. just appreciate the collections from each others.

  49. Aaron

Weak. Employees are getting out of control. I went and stood in line for a sneaker release recently, and when I got to the front they told me they only got one size 9 and it was saved for an employee. Nike needs to get involved and regulate I think. Customers can’t even get stuff any more. It all depends on who gets to the stock first. Or who can meet you at the back door.

  50. jibby

I just don’t see how any of this is going to sustain itself with Fannie and Freddie going out like they are. but in all seriousness this whole collecting thing is getting lame when you can’t even get the pair you want because of greedy people. but that my friends is the american free market. it’s not illegal for them to do and your saltyness is not going to stop them. there should be a mini mission in DLC for GTV IV where you raid and kill resellers and fake dealers. that would make my day

  51. philbil

    RESELLERS LICK BALLS
I CAME BACK JUST TO SAY THAT

  52. c brown

if you ask the question resellers good or bad all I have to say is What the Dunk!!!! Nike SB released an absolutley horrible unwearable shoe that really only appealed to us “sneakerheads” who “remembered when”…all the sudden it came out how limited they would be and cats started beasting for them…next thing you know they are on the bay for $2000….are you serious???? What do you wear those with???? I would pay retail maybe a little over (SB shops are good for that) just to have as a legacy to all my SB’s but why in gods name is some “starting” there collection with these? I’ll tell you what this creates…..Fakes and Variants!!!!! With in 30 to 60 days of every Hype’d release fakes start popping up….Making knock offs is a business. Fakes are not created for everything only things people will pay for. People who sell fakes only by bulk of things they can sell…finally the kid in Omaha who will never have access to a HyperDrop says I’ll pay $200 for some fake joints that are selling for $2000 because no one around his way will have them…..Resellers are killing the game!!! While cats was beasting up the block at NikeTown NYC for the McFly’s, I walked into Training Camp up the block and grab’d a pair of Trainer 112 and Air Max 1 112 both for retail…there kicks are incredible!!!!!! We create the hype resellers feed off the hype then destroy it….Dont think so, next time you go in to (insert mall store name here) and some 17 year old kid has on (insert super limited release kicks here) thank your local reseller; legit or otherwise.

  53. JC

yea got mines already at da House of Hoops in NYC. i got a pair n ma girl got a pair. aint ever gonna sell mines. n i really dont like da resellin.

  54. Bklynzoo

What Many people fail to realize is that in a capitalist society driven for the most part by monetary commodities, Greed is Good. Who’s to say that a kid is wrong for trying to make as much money as he can, that is in fact what capitalism is driven by, motivation. While I tried as hard as I could to pick up a pair to wear myself, there’s no beef with a kid being creative and enlisting the services of a 4 year old consumer. I think we all would have liked a pair to wear and a pair to make a Grand off of. So I don’t think anyone is above the system enough to judge what people do with what they earned through their own creative methods.

  55. King

If you don’t like re-sellers oh well! That’s a personal problem. Everyone that is complaining needs to either get their money up or start networking and finding more resources to get their shoes at retail. Like the atricle read, “we live in a free country”!!!!!! If you don’t like it shut up or do something about it! You’re not supposed to complain if you don’t have a definite solution to the problem!

  56. P3

I’m not a fan of them putting the price so high. But if people are looking to resell and make a small profit…”looking to get rid of some shoes they dont like or way they feel when they wear them” then more power to them. But the limited release reselling is bullsh*t. Let some other people get the chance to own something that is limited instead of taking it away from them. Thats just my opinion…

  57. solesaved

If you gonna do it within reason of what you paid No i don’t think it’s bad to resell but 200.00 orignal price and the first day out and they going for 2GEES now the profit some of these resellers are making and trying to make is GREED like Wu Tang said it the C.R.E.A.M that Cash rules and as long as there are people who are willing to pay those crazy asking prices. I think some sneakers get that kind or paper if the hard to find or rare or came out A WHILE BACK like the OG JORDANS but these ain’t even a week old yet like some of these other releases as well fetching that kind of paper because they can but 1 DAY or a few days later straight outta the box that what some of us will pay.

  58. Dan

I think if people did NOT want to pay high prices for the McFly’s, the prices would go down eventually. But, the resellers know that though a bajillion people wont pay the 2000 they want, theres still that one percent that still is a million people that will pay that amount.

That in itself is a problem. How to solve it, I have no idea.

  59. D

I have no problem with resellers. I am an avid collector but I have started to unload some of my collection so I guess that makes me a reseller. Also, it’s easy income. I’m not rich and don’t have a connection so sometime it’s matter of supplementing my habit. I agree with everyone who has said it’s Nike’s fault if they stop making sneakers so hard to get or limited this wouldn’t happen. Now that I’m older too I prefer quality over quantity and I bought of a lot of sneakers just because. Very good topic Matt keep up the good work.

  60. eric

fukk the resale .!!!..if i was to wait n line dat long i would defitnaly sport my mcflys for the love of it!!!!!……

  61. RON D

wow for that price i can go to taiwan and get a pair made myself!!! thats crazy!!! those type of people really take the fun out of sneaker buying!!! F**ckers!!!

  62. omar-yeeey

bottom line, for us SNEAKER HEADS that didnt get a chance to drive for half a day and rent a hotel and stand in line for 2 days SUCKS cause we propably wont get a chance to get a pair of these EVER. now if they re-release these to niketowns im major cities, nike would make stupid money off these shoes instead of these sucka re-sellers making all the money. why does nike do that? they the ones not making the money. BUSINESS is what they missing out on. im not a big kobe shoe fan, but for this, i would have copped and maybe got myself to be a kobe shoe collector but NOT ANYMORE! they didnt think of how many people could have turned into kobe sneaker heads. maybe we need to petition for another release to more MAJOR NIKE TOWN CITIES.

  63. chris

Before you blame the resellers, blame Nike for artificially limiting the supply of special edition shoes to such a ridiculously small number. It really pisses me off that they do this.

  64. peter

It’s crazy how re-selling has changed the game, but you CANT KNOCK THE HUSTLE!

  65. Darneezy

It’s complete bullsh*t and the fact of the matter is this, although there IS free marketing, etc., Nike and these other lines of sneakers, should pitch in with eBay and crack down on people blatantly selling a sneaker for 10x the actual price.

I mean, the actual replicas of the McFly’s aren’t even selling that high on eBay (when they were there), so why should these? All because it’s got a “McFly” theme?

I’d seriously snap the necks of these asshole kids, if I could and get away with it.

  66. rsan

wheres doc and the delorian dont hate on people trying to make a quick buck

  67. Darneezy

I’m so SICK of people and this “hating” crap. The fact of the matter is people like this are greedy and are considered SHARKS to me.

You stand in line for 3 days, spend money for 5 pairs of kicks, TO SELL… not wear, but SELL, just to take advantage of others who didn’t have the chance to actually purchase them, then you charge 10-15x more?

Sneaker buying used to be all for the love of the kicks, now you have people like this, who buy kicks, all to turn them for a profit. It’s pretty fu*ked up when you look at it and those who can’t see that, are blind and just as guilty as those who do this.

I understand, life is a hustle, but it shouldn’t have EVER gotten to this point. If you want to make a “quick buck” play the Powerball or something.

  68. cthuluisthehypebeast

Honestly and truly you can weed out the guys who wear the kicks because they are real conniseurs and so called hypebeast who buy them because of them being sbs or quickstrike’s thats how you tell I know guys that buy sbs because they are sbs not because they are an ill pair . These guys ware them just to say they had a pair of sbs or to have them.

  69. The SneakrFather

Everyone that complains about re-sellers. Can do 1 or 2 things. You can either get your connects up so you don’t have to stand online. Or you can not purchase the shoe. The Sneaker game is like stock. It has it’s highs and lows. You have to blame the companies. You can’t blame the re-sellers. Everyone re-sells. Companies pay no more then $3 to make the shoe. And re-sells it to the stores. And the stores re-sell it to us. Just imagine if a shoes srp is $300. The company only paid $3 to make it. They charge the store anywhere from $150-$180 for the shoe. And then were charged $300. You know what. Now we just purchased a shoe from a re-seller.

So you can either respect the game. Get out of the game. or get your connects up like I said before. If you shop at a certain store on the regular basis they should show you the up most respect. They would call you when sneakers come out. Give you discounts like your an employee. Hold sneakers for you. Or what ever the case may be. Now this is a question to all the people who hate re-sellers. Suppose you had on a pair of sneakers that meant nothing to you. You got them for dirt cheap. And someone offered to give you 3x the amount that you paid. Even thou your wearing them. Would you sell the person that shoe. Or would you say no.

You don’t have to pay what a re-seller is asking. You don’t even have to respect a re-sellers. But you will have to respect the game.

  70. cthuluisthehypebeast

go on flight club and you can find supreme dunks for over 9,000 dollars seriously that is retarded 9k for a shoe that you can only wear for a little while

  71. Darneezy

    TheSneakerFather, in reference to this:

Suppose you had on a pair of sneakers that meant nothing to you. You got them for dirt cheap. And someone offered to give you 3x the amount that you paid. Even thou your wearing them. Would you sell the person that shoe. Or would you say no.

That’s entirely different. THAT person is actually having a say on how much he’s willing to pay for those kicks, not having it forced upon him to pay “X” amount of dollars from jump.

Now, as far as the rest of your comment, everyone isn’t as “fortunate” enough to live in an area that they can make acquaintances with someone in a “Boutique” (many cities don’t even have ONE) OR gather up “connects,” like many others can and can only go the eBay route or buy from an online sneaker site.

Of course, we all know the deal as far as how much a pair of shoes take to make and how much they’re sold for, but that value vs. a resellers value isn’t anywhere CLOSE to the same.

  72. Tom

Resellers are just stupid, trying to sell a good pair of kicks for 2 and a half g’s if they want to sell it for a profit sell it for 50 over retain now 10x the retail.

  73. Vira

to combat re selling why dont nike just stop making “limited” edidition colorways?

  74. b. cheng

The same as true about people who drive up the prices for tickets. People can ask for however much they want on ebay, the reality is that very few (if any) of the McFlys are going to sell for two grand and only an idiot would buy them for a grand. The hype is huge now, but give it a few more months and prices are sure to drop closer to the original price. We’re talking about basketball shoes here, not some serious luxury item or commodity and not something that ages. Resellers are pathetic, mostly jobless kids who have nothing better to do but stand in line for hours to turn around a measily profit, if that’s your “hussle” go ahead. But I’m going to laugh at you when you wasted all that time and end up selling the shoe for little more than you paid for it.

  75. gank

it is a capitalists society but like i said we the “purists” those that love to wear our shoes shouldn’t be held hostage to these crazy ass price hikes if it were milk or water it would be called “gouging” but since kicks aren’t a necessity there are no laws in place for this. we control this market not them we need to shut them down, trust just boycott releases i know it sounds funny and radical but we can use the internet to boycott the next big hyped shoe and show the retailers, resellers, and nike the error of their ways, it aint about hating, or not allowing a person to make a quick buck its about being forced to pay for something that though we may not need we surely want. and to answer the question if i had a pair of kicks and i wore them no no no. i’ve been on vacation in other countries and have been offered money for my kicks hats etc… and i’ve said no, cuz that’s how i roll!!!! i’m for boycotting the next limited release

  76. gank

i hate fakes but price gouging resellers are the lowest of the low they ought to be castrated and in my eyes if you buy a pair of kicks and sell them for $$$ then you aint got no real love of kicks.

  77. Williamfinpatch

this is the reason why people like myself who honestly love shoes have to buy fake shoes…also doesn’t help that I’m in Iraq for the next 12 months

  78. princeofthecity

the thing is if the sneaker if reselling on ebay for 2000, right, and people aren’t willing to pay then the price will come down because if someone bought the sneakers for the sole purpose of reselling them, they aren’t going to hold onto them because that is 200 they are out now. i saw the “what the dunks” come down quite a bit in price since they dropped, at least by 500. that is just an example. but it proves that resellers will eventually have to drop their price if the richies don’t pay what they are asking. the problem is, the richies will almost always pay, and the investment made by a reseller is only 200 so he/she can probably afford to have that tied up for an indefinite amount of time, even if they bought 2 or 3.

yeah i am a little disappointed that these are reselling for so much but oh well, there are plenty of other kicks out there that i will be happy to get in the future. there is also fire that i am hunting around for being resold for reasonable prices too.

  79. Marky Mark

Personally, I don’t care about re-sellers much. If you missed em, then you should have been quicker. Maybe they wanted their $2,000 more than you wanted to feed your sneaker collection? I figure, whoever wants it more, will be in line earlier. Maybe I’m just a lil weird, but I’d rather have that two stacks rather than some sneakers; this is just my opinion from the outside looking in. I am not a re-seller; I love shoes, but if I miss out, I’m not gonna die and I’m not gonna go online to throw a hissy fit. Be cool y’all

  80. villebilly

What i would like to see is nike stop short running shoes, they are the one”s that start alot of this madness.stop bringing out shoe”s and only putting them in certain locations were other shoe heads can not buy them.I like limited shoes like every one else. But NIKE you can make a shoe limited by saying we are only going to make no more then 20.000 worldwide and have them shipped to all of the sneaker chains. What the majority of shoe chains need to do is hold the store management responsible for selling people more then one pair of a hot shoe.I know that puts the manager on the spot and i know it is only going to slow some of the ebayers down a little bit.I also know people will still find away to get more then one pair of shoes.

  81. villebilly

This shout out goes to Gank about his comment on boycott on the next hot release.Man before i read your comment i just told a friend the same thing,if we all ban together and not buy the next hot release then NIKE and all of the shoe CHAINS will have to eat the shoes. The majority of the shoe chains will be piss off at nike for happening to eat potential profit on the shoe.I say we all need to boycott the next several release including the JORDANS to.Don”t get me wrong i wear alot of nike products to,but if this will get NIKE to stop short changeing all of the shoe heads around the world, then i will be the first to boycott.

  82. echo

i never sold a pair of kicks ever.i have 4 pairs of cool gray spizikes and my friends beg me to sell them 1.i cant part with any.all you scumbags that buy up every pair to resell and make it harder for true collectors..i hope you all get sick and die so that there is less jerkoffs in the world running to ebay the second they leave the store.case in point, the carmine pack.i hate you all.thank you.

  83. shoe_man

i dont knock anyone for trying to make a dollar. we all need to eat one way or another. Sneaker heads are not what htey use to be. (the long hours of waiting for kicks.) listen if someone came to my house and offered me $2000.00 for a pair of kicks i would sell them (pending which pair they wanted) so dont be mad at someone who would re-sell htem. as far as store workers getting 5 and 6 pairs that sucks because we are only aloud 1 pair. same rules for everyone. and for the 4 year old child, man i just gotta laugh. its a great idea and it worked so you cant be mad at that. someone is using there head. hahaha peace

  84. ofilthesheep

Ppl now n days dnt buy what they like…..yall can’t b mad about the price cause I’m sure if was an auction and not a buy it now item on ebay they would still sell for like 1500…..the way I c it is if u really wanted them u would do anything 2 get them even pay the 2000 for them…..there r some ppl in the world like that….yall remember the levi pack or the titanium 23s?…..any thing that is rare will always b sold at a high price…….some one is always going 2 b willing 2 pay what every for some shoes….I baught the levi pack for 740 the day they came out……I only paid like 300 more then I would have any ways….which isn’t that much if u really think bout it…I juss stashed some money away 2 months b4 they come out so I can have em because I really wanted them…..what about the dmps?…..y do u think they go for so much?…..a lot of ppl want them and are willing 2 pay for em……..I had a g ready the day they came out because I was gunna have them no matter what….that’s just me….I’m willing 2 give what ever for what I want if u wouldn’t then that’s u….there is no shoe that is liked that will b able 2 b baught for retail

  85. TheKid

Resellers have actually been keeping sneakers floating. There are always avid fans that NEEEEED certain shoes, and by resellers essentially making it harder, it makes the shoe that much more worth it. I know some people are going to say, you shouldn’t care about hype, but it is what it is. I definaetly prefer a pair of sneakers that look as nice as the McFly’s and are limited as hell, over some regular shoes that look slightly better. And with resellers around, this will continue to occur. I mean, this is what collecting is about. Having valuable items, and resllers just add more value. And this is what style is about, being unique - and resellers definately make shoes more unique.

  86. Gman

all of you guys who are MAD at nike for releasing mad limited stuff worldwide prolly bcoz u cant get em. If you were lucky enuf to be in the area to be released and then your super happy. People can’t be satisfied bcoz people are GREEDY. I hate resellers when they SCOOP UP all the shoes just as you were behind the line going to buy em as well. But pricing the shoes at 2000 US is simply STUPID, furthermore those who fall prey to the HYPE of the reseller prices are the DUMBEST of all collectors. the reseller just conned you to pay 2000g’s for a 200++ dollar shoe.

  87. JbLeSs

you can’t knock a legal hustle…this is literally these people’s way of makin $$$…they probably have no jobs, which means they have the time to line up for 1-3 days straight to cop a pair of quick or hyper strikes and bump for profit……but on the flipside, these are the same no-job havin people are the ones who ruin things for the REAL sneaker society who actually would cop a pair of kicks to rock proudly without having to spend 2-3 paychecks on them……good job “kick-dealers”…get that money…i aint mad…i guess we TRUE sneakerheads will have to try to keep up and get our fire best we can on our days off of WORK…nuff sed.

  88. speedie

all i have to say is first come first serve , if you cant get a pair, don’t hate that someone is going to profit on makin a little money to let you have that shoe u missed out on. tuff luck if u mad!

  89. Pskila

Mayne…them shoes cost 30 Bucks to make…lol..Nike is getting ridiculous with the shoe prices; as I said before there is so many different styles of shoes at reasonable prices to be bought…You are fool if you paid 2000 bucks for a pair of sneakers period…Forget player hatin’ knocking a hustle or whatever…Real players and hustlers don’t get taken for a ride and they don’t spend money on foolish endeavors…
