Throwback Thursday - Nike Air Jordan 3 Black/Cement Grey
Posted by Matt Halfhill | Jul 31, 2008 With the unveiling of the Air Jordan 3 Black/Cement from the upcoming Countdown Pack, many compared how the shoe looked to the last time the shoe came out in 2001. This however was not the first time that the Jordan 3 was retroed.
The first time the Jordan 3 came back, after its debut in 1988, was in 1994 during a campaign that Nike launched to bring back the first three Air Jordans that Michael Jordan wore. This followed his first retirement when, at the time, many in Nike’s offices were concerned about sales after Jordan’s exit from the NBA. The ‘94 retro releases were packaged in custom boxes that presented a collage of images telling the story of Michael Jordan and his career. It was also in these boxes that the first retro cards came - much bigger than what was placed in boxes after his second retirement. Though retro Jordans have a very strong following today, back in the mid 90s, there was anything but that. Many of the retros made their way to sales racks and clearance stores such as Ross for as low as $19.99. Today, coming across retros from this era has become a very hard endeavor, but well worth the hunt. Enjoy the photos after the jump. I wasn’t even in elementry school when these first drop. Not to mention in 93 I wasn’t old enough to cop em. 2001 I slept on em but has the true blues. But thank god for the cdps or I wouldn’t of had em

Man I wish that they would bring these back out with the nike air in back. The pack versons are wack compare to these babies. Jordan Brand please answer all the collectors prayers and start bringing out the retros we love with the original swoosh air logo.

I was actually upset about these in ‘94 because the jumpman logo was waay too skinny and small compared to the OGs. but at least it has nike air on the back, I can’t complain these are barely acceptable.

I remember passing on the first wave of retroes back in the early 90s…even after they was in stores like Ross and Marshalls for like 20-30 bucks

crazzzy!!!i remembered when these came out 94′ n nobody was buying them.i got me a pair n the white ones for 25 bucks each.
balled on them for a year then gave them to cuzins in p.i. times have changed.still got the 01’s on ice.

I got my cement/blacks from the discount rack back in the day and still wear em’ whenever the mood strikes. After 14 years they’re not as clean as in these photos, but these shoes are meant to be worn and shown off. They ALWAYS turn heads.

^^I’m the one who sent pics of the CDP III’s to TSG.com about 3 weeks ago….these new ones are for sure a bit thinner than the older ones, especially the padding in the ankle area….but I ain’t complaining. They’re comfortable, they look good, and we are NEVER getting black/cement III’s with the “Nike Air” on em, so let’s let it go…..pass on the CDP III’s and you WILL regret it….

All this talk about 94 reminds me that I’m still upset that I slept on the jordan II retro from a few years ago. I have that black II Nu retro from back then on ice but they “gets” no love.

idk why ppol b trippen bout the retros sayin its wack and all that BS! i got the 94’s cement 3 but i aint trippen bout the retros CDP they look the same except on some lil changes same as the breds 4 that came out recently i got the retroes too n i see a bit of difference…cnt we juz b all thankfull they retroed them! or if u cnt really stop tripen bout it then get the OG’s, pay a grip and watch them crumble like a cookie! peace!
