Jason Kidd Leaves Nike - Signs with Peak
Posted by Matt Halfhill | Aug 26, 2008 While Team USA is on their way back home with a Gold Medal in hand, Jason Kidd had some unfinished business to take care of in China. This unfinished business was inking an endorsement deal with Peak. Peak is a Chinese athletic footwear and apparel company that has started signing B-grade or soon-to-retire NBA players as a part of their marketing plan. Shane Battier was the first to sign with them with a $4M contract for 3 years of wearing skippies.
This is a bit of a surprise for me seeing that Nike and Kidd have long had a relationship. Recently Nike has released the Zoom Flight 95 (the shoes Kidd wore in his rookie year), Zoom Flight Five (his first signature shoe), as well as a ton of Jason Kidd color themed sneakers at the House of Hoops. Possibly Nike had a feeling that Kidd wasn’t looking to renew his contract with them and wanted to get the last dose of Jason Kidd shoes out while they could. With not many seasons left for Jason Kidd, let’s hope that an ankle injury from K-Mart quality footwear doesn’t force him to hang up his kicks. More shots after the jump. Info from Kenlu. |

Hi my name’s Rick Emmanuel; I’m from Gabon and I’m in Morocco for my studies; I heard about Peak basketball shoes; I’ve seen many pictures about it. I’m very seduced by designs proposed by these Sportswear. And I’m happy to see a such NBA Basketball player as Jason Kidd leaving the famous Nike Basketball for Peak basketball shoes. I’d like to know how I can get some Peak basketball shoes at my size (462/3), Peak Basketball kit (jersey + short).
And I’d like to help these sportwear firm to sell basketball products (Balls, Kits, shoes)
Thanks a lot

SHOES DON’T DETERMINE A PLAYER’s POPULARITY.. ITS HIS GAME!
EVEN IF YOU PUT A PAIR OF FLIP FLOPS TO JASON KIDD’s FEET. HE CAN STILL DO A TRIPLE DOUBLE. I’M A FAN OF NIKE BUT IM A BIGGER FAN OF JASON KIDD. SO WHATEVER HE WEARS, ITS DAMN STRAIGHT ALRIGHT AS LONG AS HE CAN STILL DISH NO LOOK ALLEY HOOPS!
*QUESTION: WOULD YOU RATHER WEAR A PAIR OF LEBRON VI’s BUT OBESE and CAN’T EVEN MAKE A SINGLE FIELD GOAL EVERY TIME YOU PLAY? THINK ABOUT IT. POSERS are LOSERS!!!

And1’s, Nike, Reebok, Adidas…man Peak Copied it All!!! Too bad for Kidd to leave Nike. There’s no Originality in the Peak’s Design, It’s all copied…
Oct 18, 2008 at 11:54 pm

word i’m feelin cmt # 43…gotta feed his family..this cat was one of the highest paid ballers in the game..he’s still inked to a 7 digit contract….the F&*# do you mean he had to feed his family. i would be loyal to a company that shown me so much love especially with my off-courts drama that they could have dropped me for but didn’t. You’re already a millionaire man wat more do you really need. that greed will get ya…look at spree…he still aint playin….yeah its a business move and i understand that but there is loyalty in the business world too…
Aug 28, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Will someone please enlighten me about HOW MUCH it costs to feed an NBA player’s family? Sheeeesh. C’mon!
But seriously, I really want to know how much more $$ Peak offered, or does Nike have some other unfavorable binding terms in the contract? Maybe it’s not just money-related? Because if I were him, Nike means a lot more than a few million bucks. Especially since you don’t need a few million to feed a family.
Aug 28, 2008 at 9:18 am
THAT AIN’T RIGHT!
Aug 28, 2008 at 1:49 am
^^^^#39, im a nike man too, but were just being real. nike isnt paying anyone on these boards to wear there shoes, so the undying loyalty always baffles me. peak pay me 4million, u best believe you will never see another swoosh or jumpman touch my body again
Aug 27, 2008 at 11:03 pm

Aug 27, 2008 at 4:25 pm
its all business. jason kidds legacy is not gonna be remembered by what shoe he retired wearing, its gonna be that he was one of the greatest point guards ever. for that fact jordan retired wearing what the 17s, they kinda look like a shoe peak could of made. look at the profit starbury and these companies have made by selling discount budget footwear, we can say they suck, we can say its wack, but the bottom line is it is smart, and if your a business owner, you want your product to be succesfull and have the best people you can get to endorse it. jason kidd is a multi-millionaire, having a pair of nikes on his feet is not as big of deal to him, as it probably is to most of us
Aug 27, 2008 at 11:36 am

This is great news for me, as I designed my own shoe line through PEAK. You can check out my work at http://www.myspace.com/hbathletics or email me at kobimcintyre@aol.com
My very first full production limited-run basketball shoe is the (HB: Aviator “All Things Fly”). It bears the PEAK logo on the bottom of the sole. HB stands for Hyper-boy athletics. The HB: Aviator sells for $35 with free delivery or shipping. Don’t sleep on the PEAK Son!!!!

Aug 27, 2008 at 2:28 am
D*mn JKidd, if he was going to leave Nike for a Chinese company the least he could have done was sign with a bigger one, like Li Ning. I don’t know jack about either but at least Li Ning has some stuff in the Olympics and don’t they make Shaq’s shoes?
Aug 27, 2008 at 1:31 am
WOW…this is news…i guess this is why nike retroed his shoes lately just to give fans that last lil taste of kidd…
Aug 27, 2008 at 12:18 am

Aug 26, 2008 at 10:26 pm
To cmt #13. Whoa yo. what are YOU talking about? The only cmt I made toward cmt 1. NOT CMT 3. Same person, but I was refering to his 1st post. About the “1st” thing. My post never refer to anythin about his And1 cmt. I was just making a statement that there are alot of “sneakerhead” who are so quick to make fun of a kid if he’s wearing a non nike or a non high end brand. Maybe you needa take your time to read my post and let it sink into your brain. o_0
Aug 26, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Yea! Speaking of ripoffs that bring to mind those Swap Meet or Flea Market whatever you call um kicks called “Air” Not Nike Air but Air. I guess they PEAK at what the others are putting out and Sneak and Steal ideas to make knockoffs.
Aug 26, 2008 at 9:47 pm
If you visit their site, you will see that Peak’s lineup of basketball shoes are ripoffs of sneakers worked up by And1, Reebok, Converse, and others relabeled with their name. I will post photos first thing in the morning of what i came across on their site.
They even have 1 shoe that is a knockoff of Duncan’s shoe he wore from adidas in the 2006-2007 season and they left his player number “21″ on the heel.
Aug 26, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Nicekicks, wow, you think Kidd fans will stop being Kidd fans because he switched shoe companies?
And the K-Mart quality footwear comment is just stupid. Come on, NiceKicks, I know you’re smarter than that. Nike’s quality isn’t any better than Peaks, they might possibly even be made in the same factories as Nike (or Reebok, or Adidas) the only reason Nike is more expensive is the market, there is a demand and people will pay more. These shoes, while not available in the US, will probably not be cheap in China, this isn’t like Starbury’s, my guess these will go for around US$80 here. I’m not a fan of Peak (prefer Shaq and Argentina’s brand, Li Ning), but will have to check out a Peak store to see if they have these in stock and what they’re charging.
Aug 26, 2008 at 6:43 pm
wow I just seen the shoe’s this is very sadd if I bought these they better come with some SUCKIE SUCKIE…..LOL!!!
Aug 26, 2008 at 6:17 pm
When KG left Nike for And 1 I thought that was a major downgrade, but to Peak is on the verge of an insult. I have been and still am a Jason Kidd fan, but all the the shoes of his won’t be the same to me again…
Aug 26, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Ummm to comment number 4…wat are u talkin about, u mite be confused because comment 3 was talkin bout And1s thhe sneaker, sorry I was kinda confused at wat u were saying
Aug 26, 2008 at 5:59 pm

Aug 26, 2008 at 4:19 pm
^^^ Exactly!!!! Stern is ELATED!!!
Aug 26, 2008 at 4:06 pm
I was raised on budget footwear, but I just have to smh at him for leaving a company who has been a supporter for YEARS. I understand that Peak probably offered more money to Kidd than Nike would, but even so, do you want to end your legacy and career with some extra money or with a loyal following of supporters who loved your shoes for a number of years.
I know that the NBA will never officially say it, but you know that David Stern loves seeing these Chinese footwear makers getting their products onto NBA players feet because they are thus marketing the NBA in China for him.
Aug 26, 2008 at 4:02 pm
kidd messed up big timee why would he leave nike
Aug 26, 2008 at 3:56 pm
what’s so special about the whole “1st? first?” crap? Anyways, its good to know that ppl still wear kicks that arent popular brand name. Unlike those so called ’sneakerheads’ and hypebeast ppl who are so quick to make fun of a kid who aren’t wearing some sort of Nike or designer kicks. Shame on you. GROW UP. I wore payless and k-mart sneakers until I hit 6th grade. That’s when I started working for my money and buying Nike and Adidas. =] good times.
Aug 26, 2008 at 3:55 pm
