Air Jordan PHLY
Posted by George Kiel III | Sep 17, 2008 Is that Michael Jordan coming out of retirement AGAIN? (No…everybody take a deep breath.) This is Michael practicing with the Charlotte Bobcats last year in his Air Jordan PHLYs. Though this orange colorway on his feet will probably never see the light of day, Jordan Brand will be releasing 5 different colorways of the Air Jordan PHLY before the year ends (see models you can buy after the jump).
The PHLY model was first released March 15th, 2008 in limited numbers to 10 selected stores; however, at the beginning of November, JB will be releasing these publicly at every store. Inspired by a par of Air Jordans Michael wore in 1985, Air Jordan PHLY was created as a tribute to Michael Jordan’s coach Clifton Herring aka “Pop”. Resembling a Converse All-Star, this shoe is said to be one of the most comfortable non-athletic shoes ever made by JB. These sneakers will retail for $85 and be released throughout November and December. Not flashy, but very stylish. Did MJ hit or miss with these? |

Not to brag, but ya I’ve met the designer of these shoes and seen the ones that Jordan is wearing in the picture…a nice basketball pebbled leather material. Props to Justin Taylor for designing these!

I’ve always loved phly’s because, along with having a really funny name, they look good and they’re cheap. I think these are a sound alternative to white Air Force 1’s and Fake Jordan 7’s.

Wow, to be honest at first when they came out with the black PHLY i was like, damn these are ugly, but over times i grew on them a lil bit, especially the second PHLY, those are ridiculous

Sep 17, 2008 at 2:24 pm
it says that its one of the most comfortable NON-ATHLETIC shoes JB has made….. I understand that JB is trying to make a more affordable shoe, but making a shoe like this is just a disgrace to the Jordan name
Sep 17, 2008 at 2:24 pm

The fact that MJ was willing to ball in these kicks speaks volumes about how comfy the shoe must be! Even retired his feet/ankles are worth millions…
Sep 17, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Aint nothing but the Jordan sky highs dude nothing but the jordan sky highs
Sep 17, 2008 at 12:31 pm
it’s all about timing with things like this. These could do well, but since all the hype is on retros and HD’s people will sleep on these.
as far as a realistic opinion on the look, they are nice. This is a very simplistic over-used design, but they are clean and on the right foot, why not. def not my stlye though
Sep 17, 2008 at 11:41 am
P.S. switch to black laces on the white/elephant & they give you that nice ol school feel…
Sep 17, 2008 at 11:40 am
I personally like the black & white pairs with the elephant print and will be copping either one. I’ve seen people rock these and they look good…
LOVING the fact that JB made a nice shoe in the lower price range…great alternative for those who want jays but can’t cough up the $150 & up…GET THESE INSTEAD OF ROCKING FAKES!
Sep 17, 2008 at 11:30 am

I am with the Air Jordan Phly (December 1, 2008 Release) though…
Sep 17, 2008 at 11:23 am
No way this is the most comfortable Jordan ever. I remember the day he practiced with the Bobcats last year as I live down here. I could not find out what he was wearing at all. These look ok but look like they should be 65 bucks…a Jordan Chuck.
