Nike Air Penny II
Posted by Matt Halfhill | Sep 24, 2008 After twelve years of sitting on the sidelines and closets, the Nike Air Penny II is back in the game. The first colorway, Black/Varsity Royal-White, has started hitting doors ahead of its October launch with a nationwide release at Foot Locker doors of September 27th. Coming the following month in November is the White based colorway that Penny Hardaway wore in 1997 NBA All-Star Game.
Along with the original colors, the Nike Air Penny II retros sport an original box price of $140. Heel and forefoot Air as well as a midfoot carbon fiber shank, these are as ready for the court as they were more than a decade ago. Like the Air Jordan line, the Penny series had one of the most creative advertising campaigns put together by none other than Weiden + Kennedy. Lil Penny, the half-pint, trash-talking sidekick appeared in a series of commercials and print ads that promoted the Penny line including the Nike Air Penny II. These 2 colorways are sweet? but the OG colorway, was the all white with the university blue/baby blue/powder blue whatever blue was The One!!! i’m just sayin???

gotta second #67 jonjon. i hate when classics are retroed without the subtle things that made the shoe that much hotter, i knew the reflective stuff was missing but i feel like something is different too.

comment 74. yo i feel you..i couldnt get most of the shoes i wanted when i was little..the only two i could remember were the nike ndestrukt (rodman) that i got off a sidewalk sale in the 5th grade.and the grant hill fila’s..now that i got the j.o.b poppin off im buyin back my childhood too

I feel you mang, I got those Pippen’s too, and this past month I also copped 2 pairs of the Penny’s, some hyperdunks, a countdown pack, a pair of sharkley’s (on crazy sale), those wood-panel af2’s, and some “watermellon” ajf12’s, also on crazy sale (I already got one pair, they are beautiful imo).

The pictures with both shoes together are amazing…these really use royal blue well. My goodness, these are some beautiful shoes, no doubt about it.

Im from the Double O and was probably penny’s biggest fan. When they first came out in 96 my parents couldnt afford them, and everybody at my school had em. So when I herd they were making a comeback I started saving from January so my wife caouldnt tell me nothin’ like Kanye.
I told her I’m not buying a pair of shoes, I’m buying a peice of my life/childhoo back…how ya like that!

I cop’d these on saturday and i was happy until i put them on… i got em for 112+ tax (military discount) and i had a lil thang i like to call “buyers remorse” lol. I acually like the white/black ones better than the black/blue/white ones… Maybe its just me but the white ones stand out more… i dunno im going to have both so it doesnt even matter.

I spoke with a manager at Footlocker and they said they made em in big sizes but you have to order em in…. 13 is the biggest size shipped to stores. They made get larger sizes
Got mine today in the friends and family for $105.67
Mofos only had 1 pair in each size!

maan I tried so hard to get these today….I got my boy in Austin to hit up the stores this a.m. but no one got them bigger than a 13 then as soon as I landed in Oakland I started trying to find them but I ran into the same problem…anyone know any spots that got them in a 14?

To me these are the Best Kicks to drop for in 2008. I got the Black and White ones in 8th grade for Christmas. I remember begging my mom for them. She finally copped when they were down to 89.99. If it was 1997 these would sick. Since it’s 11 years later they are not.
I’ve said it over an over. Cant wait for companies to stop being scared to blow their huge budgets by taking a chance with new designs.
It seems impossible since most corporate clowns are order takers afraid to take a chance. Even the HD’s needed to be over-hyped to be accepted. Please give the people some new designs. Its bad enough out here. Trick us into happiness with some new…PLEASE!

Big Penny fan right here…loved him ever since I was knee-high to a grasshopper…it just sucks that he got hurt in his prime, he really coulda made some noise. Well anyway, the shoe is still close to OG form after all these years. The black ones in this post is still the best colorway, hands down. But I will still try my best to cop both of the colorways and even the Penny 3s when they come out to show that I am still a fan of his.

Man….
I called my local FootLocker and as usual there were 17/18 year olds working there… Didn’t even know what the Air Penny was, and didn’t know they were coming out! LOL!!!
Needless to say, they will NOT be opening up at midnight or early Saturday morning.
I guess it just depends on where you are. Not a whole lot of die-hard sneakerheads in St. Louis County…Not like NYC at all.

how close do the Air Up and Flight One come to being penny sigs? i know the Up had a pippen exclusive colorway, but the penny version had the orlando blue and the 1 embroidered on the back. as far as the Flight One goes, MJ himself wore them in at least one game. Eastbay had the life-sized cutout to prove it. just my one cent.

sneakFREAK, you have a good point about the Penny line being as good as the Air Jordan line. True the AJ line has so many amazing shoes, but not all are 100%. Plus, if it wasn’t the GOAT wearing them, would they be as great? The Penny shoes were amazing even if Anfernee never wore them ya know?
