Posted by Nick Engvall | Nov 13, 2008 The Fila Ninety6 “Grant Hill 2″ has arrived at Finishline. Now that Grant Hill is with Nike, Fila has decided on the name the Ninety6, as in the year the originals released.
The Fila Ninety6 was one of the biggest reasons, if not the reason that Fila has been able to survive as a company. For a lot of us b-ball cats, these were one of the shoes that made us think outside the Swoosh for the first time. Grant Hill, and the Ninety6, had a following like no other, even the late great Tupac was seen sportin’ these kicks in his All Eyez On Me album insert. i had these bad boys back in 6th grade..my mom bought my older brother AND me a pair..we were fresh.. that christmas…i got that bad a$$ USA Jersey.. NUMBER 5!

Those Grant Hills are the ones I worked all summer for and when I got them I rock them joints everywhere. They bring back memory of high school when I would walk pasts a crowed of people who looked me up and down and they could not say jacksh** when I was hot stepping past them it was the best feeling ever.

Yea I had these when I was in the 5th grade. I loved them and I had a Grant Hill pistons jersey. It was that ugly teal green color. lol But yea ima gone head in grab them again. Bring back those memories when I thought I was the flyest thing in the 5th grade!!! lol

I loved Grant Hill with a passion…I had his jerseys, like 75 of his basketball cards, recorded every Pistons game & watched it the next day, drank Sprite, and of course bought any of his FILA’S! This brings me back to the elementary days, haha.

I didnt start playin ball till i was 7 (in 97) so these kicks dont mean as much 2 me…. But the three’s…. omg i won my first aau championchip in sum 3’s…. bustin ass in the all black pair…. 3 point buzzer beater and the foul 2 win the game….. oh the memories…. PLUS they look better

The OG detail was better. When they retro’d a few years ago, I missed out. So definatly gonna cop now. The lows weren’t bad either.

These are not the first GH’s. The first ones looked a little like the Jordan 9’s and had the Fila logo on the lower back part of the sole.

these kicks were the truth, along with the air zoom flights that jason kidd rocked, i remember in 6th grade my school played some catholic school team from the suburbs and the whole team was wearing them..i had the matching snap cap but that year i rocked the converses jr rider was wearing

Yeah I owned a pair of these back in ‘96 but I refuse to rock them in 08/09 even if the legendary Pac sported them.

These bring back so muck memories. I was in 10th grade when these’s hit and i wanted them so bad but I ended getting the Jordan’s 11 Concord. But its nice to se they are back I might cup a pair this time.

I was in the 7th grade when these dropped. They sold out of the white/blue joints, so my mom got me the all black ones. Gotta get these.

I have only bought Fila 2 times in my life and both were disappointments. With that said, I really like these Grant Hills. I remember wanting them so badly but never got them. Most colorways suck hard, but not this one.
It was 1996 and it was cool to wear something other than Nike (or Reebok as a second choice). Fila… wow.
Does anyone think they could ever make a comeback like that for 2009?
