Nike Zoom Kobe IV “Carpe Diem”
Posted by Nick Engvall | Dec 31, 2008 Kobe Bryant and Nike have created a new standard for basketball shoes with the Nike Zoom Kobe 4. Extremely lightweight and a price that is more like the price of a premium basketball shoe in the early nineties, over $60 cheaper than another signature shoe we know and love, make this undeniably one of the best shoes in the game right now.
The Nike Zoom Kobe IV “Carpe Diem” colorway is arguably the best so far, with the snakeskin toebox and the Carpe Diem emblem on the tongue. Ont top of the technology packed into these kicks, in the form of Flywire and Zoom Air, the black and yellow with just a hint of purple really makes these kicks hard to pass up, even if you’re not a Laker fan. Available for per-order now at Eastbay. Shoes will begin shipping on January 17th. Closer look after the break. |

i’ve tweaked my ankle before but i never really had any ankles injuries. i’ve been playing ball in lebrons since 2004 and i buy them every year, until i heard about the new kobe’s that is. i’m planning on getting a pair of these pretty soon. lebrons signature shoe is very heavy and i look forward to a lighter shoe. plus i like low tops.

Dec 31, 2008 at 9:06 pm
#13 you aint no baller if you have, never, ever, ever balled in low-cut shoes. sh-t;l i done dunked on cats rocking my army uniform with boots on. it aint the shoes; its the skill ability; hell, i can dunk barefoot

These kicks are hot for ball but….
When Kobe rocks these in a game the toe box looks like it sticks out to the point where it looks like a clown shoe so im 50/50 on coppin them yet.

Man, Look out Lebron! These might have way more colorways than the Lebron 6! I think there is competition going on behind the scenes. LOL
Dec 31, 2008 at 6:04 pm
I got them today and Shiekh… They released real early for some reason.. they pretty dope.
Dec 31, 2008 at 2:08 pm

Dec 31, 2008 at 2:02 pm
HEY BOURNE…JORDANS HAVE BEEN CLASSICS SINCE THE BEGINNING…IT DIDNT TAKE HIM LONG AT ALL….YOU CANT SAY :maybe someday they’ll be called classics!!!
a la Jordans: NOT EVEN ON HIS LEVEL…EVEN LEBRONS ARE MORE CLASSIC THAN KOBES.
Dec 31, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Let’s face it. this is one of the best basketball shoe to come out in the last decade.
Dec 31, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Hm.. wasnt Pippens first champonship wearing a semi low top the nike flight.?He was balling like a man possessed………….
no rolling ankles in the playoffs for him…..
Dec 31, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Eastbay needs to fix their typo. No way those shoes are 15 oz. And to everybody worried about ballin in low tops, your trippin like kobe said you’ve never sprained your ankle in hightops? It don’t matter what shoe you wear if you land on a foot your ankle is going to twist. So stop acting like low tops mean your going to break your ankle. Anybody who has played high level ball will no this. If you don’t like the show fine but don’t pass up on something fresh just cuz you don’t got ankle insurance and get crossed up at your local gym on the regular!

ugly
Dec 31, 2008 at 12:12 pm
I think these r dope. It all makes perfect sense. I will be getting these as well as a couple pairs of I.D’s.
Dec 31, 2008 at 11:56 am
yes, maybe it’s because Kobe wears them, but I am feeling these more and more now… I bought the 1st Adidas Kobes and the 1st Nike Kobes, maybe someday they’ll be called classics!!!
a la Jordans

I hear you Nice Kicks but Im not convinced I think imma stick to the Hyperdunks you may be right with all that scientific jargon but 99% of the NBA play in mid or high tops I like that Kobe is going agianst the grain but I just dont see too many people flocking to get this shoe and play in them our minds have been trained to wear mids and HI’s and I dont think Kobe by himself me or millions of other ballers to play in these
Dec 31, 2008 at 11:33 am
If they put a jumpman or a King James logo on these people would love them more. I already preordered mines on eastbay. Cant wait to get them. The only time I played ball in a low top was the Jordan 11 low and never had a problem. Besides that I never saw a low top basketball shoe I would hoop in until the ZK4.

duvy,
Thanks for your service to our Nation.
How lightweight a shoe is and how high the leather goes up your leg does not have anything to do with the amount of ankle support. If that was the case, wouldn’t Chuck Taylors have good ankle support?
Support and stability comes from how well the heel is kept to the shoe. Locking the heel is where you get the support that you need. True, a higher top shoe will constrict your movement, but as Kobe has said in a number of interviews, if you are coming down on someone’s foot, it doesn’t matter if your shoes are knee-highs, you are going to roll your ankle, period.
Speaking more about the Nike Lunarlite trainers, those shoes are not designed for basketball, they are intended for running. Those shoes are great for their intended purpose, but have no heel stability. True the cushioning may be the same as what is in the Kobe IV, but its the design of the shoe that gives your stability rather than a cushioning system.

Out here in Iraq ive balled in Nike Lunarlite trainers for the past 4 months and my ankles arent jacked up.
Dec 31, 2008 at 10:50 am
Nice Kicks dont do that you know these should be considered weapon nobody in they right mind would play in these shoes except kobe!!! Too low and way too light!!!
Dec 31, 2008 at 10:37 am
big whoop, i’ll take an extra couple ounces to save my ankles. Kobe can only play in these because he gets his ankles professionally wrapped every game.
Dec 31, 2008 at 10:30 am
^ The Hyperdunk weighs 13.0 oz, and the Kobe IV weighs 11.6 oz.
Dec 31, 2008 at 10:29 am
Dont buy these shoes for basketball there heavy hyperdunks are lighter and there hightop
Dec 31, 2008 at 10:25 am
Has anybody played ball in these yet??? Ive never ever played in a low cut sneaker Im waiting to see will there been a class action suit against Nike because of the related ankle breaking of athletes associated with wearing this shoe playing ball!!! Do we have anybody who has risked their ankles and hamstrings to play in these shoes??????
Dec 31, 2008 at 10:13 am
These are by far the hottest Kobe’s since his Adidas Crazy 8’s so def will add to the collection.
Dec 31, 2008 at 10:10 am
best colorway besides the all-star version. these are tied with the most overrated shoe with the leborn vi. you gotta be die hard fans to like their shoes because they all suck to me but the last editions of both have been the best thus far
Dec 31, 2008 at 10:04 am
