Staple x Airwalk 2009 Preview
Posted by Nick Engvall | Dec 10, 2008 With recent news that Pigeon Pusher, Jeff Staple, is teamed up with Airwalk for new partnership to come to fruition in 2009.
Some pics from the R & D meetings were posted on Jeff’s blog, which is like a trip down memory lane for some. The tennis ball Airwalk’s from many years ago were inspiration for the Alife Ball-Out’s. While the basketball joints from back in the day, could have easily been inspiration for those Jordan 22’s that dropped more recently. There will most likely be an 80’s/90’s influence on the releases, as Airwalk’s best days were back then. With the Beastie Boys’ Oscilloscope logo in the mix, collabs with the old school hip hop’ers might even be a part of the mix. You can knock Airwalk all you want, and even question Jeff’s decision, but if you are looking for a challenge in the sneaker industry, bringing Airwalk from the bargain basement, back to a front runner in the shoe game, would be the ultimate accomplishment. I think it’s pretty rad. A well-respected designer working with a brand that has given back to skateboarding over the years by having shoes that are actually (gasp!) affordable. Usually when shoe companies work with outside “artists” it’s the skaters that suffer…I personally don’t have the $ to be shelling out 100-120 dollars for a pair of kicks. Plus I’m all about the old school. =)

dope! I saw airwalk working with teh hundreds a few years back and was wondering if they were gonna keep rollin with the collabs. Looks like they’re making a comeback, been seeing airwalks everywhere lately.

No props to Airwalk here- Nike made identical shoes to what is shown in the first photo back in the early 80’s- A kids tennis model made of felt tennis ball material and a hi-top basketball shoe made out of orange pebble. Just imagine these same shoes with a Nike swoosh…for real! (They also made a soccer ball shoe)

If you guys did your proper research, you’d realize these are not prototype samples. Just read Staple’s blog post. “Well, since its leaked anyway, here’s some snapshots from recent R+D meetings.”
R+D means research and development. These look more like archival samples and not actual designs. You guys want to say PREVIEW just to get the web hits. Journalistic integrity…eh, who cares…just put whatever will make the kids click on.

I’m Sorry But I Wasn’t Raised Really On JB…My Moms Would Cop Some Nice Kix’s From Payless..So It’s Kinda Nice To Hear That A Renowned Sneaker Designer Would Think Bout Payless Cause Not Alot Of Pplz Have Money Like That To Be Spendin On JB Or Nike..I Grew Up In The HoOd..And Airwalk’s Aren’t Even That Bad…Rememba Guys Its The NAME thas Selling

I used to live in Anahiem for a few years in the late 80’s. EVERYBODY was rocking airwalks, vans and the infamous Karate shoes. Real heads know what I am talking about. I personally had the black Karate shoes. Those were the ish main….
