Kicks On Court: Is Dwyane Disgruntled With Converse? - January 6th, 2009

Two weeks before the basketball season began, we showed you photos of Dwyane Wade’s fourth signature sneaker, the Converse Wade 4. Usually, when a signature shoe is released, the player is often seen on the court wearing it; however, why have we yet to see ‘Flash’ rocking the Wade 4?
Throughout our Kicks On Court, we have spotted Wade hooping in the Converse Wade 1 night in and night out. I wonder how Converse feels by designing a signature sneaker for one of its athletes only to never see him hooping in it! If you recall, during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, some of the signature sneaker athletes (LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony) debuted their latest sneaker while ‘Flash’ hooped in a Converse team signature sneaker. When D Wade’s Converse contract is up, could these signs be pointing towards a Nike or JB signing? Considering the Miami Heat’s jerseys, wouldn’t it be nice to see Wade sporting some OG colorway Jordan sneakers? I don’t know why everybody thinks Nike’s are so great ? If I was a superstar I’d want my own shoe not some MJ crap that everybody and there brother is wearing .The most exciting player ever wore Converse(Dr. J) and if I was D wade I’d be honored to follow is his foot steps

Even if Nike owns Converse only thing a true “sneaker” head(NOT Basket ball guy) would wear is Chucks…Yea we all have our own tastes which is fine. NY needs people to chuckle at while bustling around neighborhoods or the city.

Doesn’t Nike own both Converse and JB? I’m sure Wade would look superb in JB rather than Converse. JB needs to get Wade with his Chicago roots and all. It’d be fitting

I hope Wade “IS” unhappy with Converse so he can jump ship and come over to Nike where he need to be. If not Nike than Team Jordan. It took Kobe a long time to come aroun and admit that signing with Addias was a mistake. . . i suppose Wade is finnaly admiting he messed up singing with Converse.

Carmelo didnt like wearing his sig. shoe and was wearing retros (I think the 1.5’s). JB put a quick stop to that. Notice how he is rocking retro’s anymore? Funny part is that he was the one doing all the inspiration and design call outs along with the designer. Carmelo….whaaaaaaaaa!

Do your homework! Tinker Hatfield has been collabing with wade and converse on his kicks. Wade needs to stop being Carmelo, wear his shoes, cash his check, play ball, wear a gold medal and rep converse. He is part of the NIKE FAMILY! JB slapped Carmelo around when he wasn’t wearing his shoes and now he wears what he is told. Boys turning into men. Plus no sympathy for these guys. I make 30 million with my shoe deal…whaaaaaaa!

ok first, nike owned converse before wade even signed with converse.
second, wade could have rejected the designed before hand when they had the prototypes out.
third i think wade is just superstitious and thinks that these shoes give him what he had back when he made the dwade 1 famous.
if he didnt like them, wouldnt you think nike/converse would make another shoe asap, its not like it would hurt thier pockets, shoes only cost 30 dollars to the company after all the advertising and production costs, no hurt on them.

During the Olympics, Nike had those “United We Rise” colorways of their shoes. If I remember correctly, I think converse had some Wade shoes that were United We Rise editions. Am I correct? So technically he could just rock some J’s or Nike right?

Only the wade 1 was comfortable. All others were garbage. Would be nice to see wade sign onto the Jordan Brand or just have exclusive made from Nike. Probably will happen once he leaves Miami next yr with Lebron.

DWADE needs to stay where he is. Rep your own brand! Beside, Nike owns Converse and I am sure he is making plenty of coin to rep the brand. Everyone can’t be in Jordan Brand or Nikes.

to comment 32 why would he be able to wear JB and Nike products just because you get bought out doesnt mean you can wear other shoes and wade is still under Converse contract till 2009 and they paid him 30million not a lebron offer but still not shabby converse has been bought out by nike but they are their own entity just like jordan and nike there is no nike check on any jordan product except the box!!!

Correct me if i’m wrong please. but i thought Nike bought Converse…. am i right or wrong? if that is true d wade is already under nike…. true? if thats the case shouldn’t he be allowed to rock JB and Nike products??????????????? plus i saw those collabo shoes from JB & converse that shows michael jordans silhouette on the converse sneaker from his college days. Regarding Wade and Converse, Kobe did the same thing with Adidas when they released the ugly KOBETWO shoes. Kobe eventually switched back to the Kobe One shoes during the 2002 Playoff run. After that season, Kobe started to wear various brands until he settled with Nike in 2003. It looks like Wade wants out. But isn’t Converse the same company as Nike now?

I think those DWade’s he is currently wearing are pretty ok, but the new ones are definitely ughhhh. He needs to sign to Nike or JB when he’s done. I prefer him sign to Nike because he is his own player and I think once you sign to JB you become part of an umbrella. I think players like Carmello Anthony and Chris Paul need to be under that umbrella for a little bit until they start becoming true superstars (Top 3) players in the leauge. However, DWade deserves his own line.
