According to reports, LeBron James has been selected as the MVP of the 2008-09 season. Like Mike, LeBron is to receive MVP honors after wearing his sixth signature sneaker, but more importantly leading his team to the top of the Eastern Conference putting up 28.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 7.6 assists. LeBron, age 24, will become the second youngest to received MVP honors.
Congrats LeBron. |

Hats off to jumpmanaholic Spoken like someone who actually KNOWS what they’re typing about.
kingkenley The Lakers and yourself better be worrying about the Rockets, instead of thinking about a Kobe/LeBron, Lakers/Cavs Finals matchup.
And anyone, like this J.Reddrick idiot, who even places LeBron’s name next to “overrated” doesn’t know sh!t about the game and is just a “hater.”
No way in the HELL is LeBron ever going to be “overrated.”
May 6, 2009 at 11:27 am
wes unseld wasnt da youngest to win it…bob pettit was da youngest to win it…wes unseld is like 4th youngest
May 6, 2009 at 2:53 am
D wade should of won this.
i understand LBJ being good
but i think Dwade busted his ass this season and playoffs.
and Dwade had to to work with rookies and crap players.
Lebron had players that were good.
which i think had a effect on there season record.
Dwade had better stats this season !
LEBRON JAMES = OVERRATED !
ps. GO LAKERS
May 5, 2009 at 3:10 pm
The reason they gave it to LeBron is that his apg was as much as his rpg and the Cavs has the best regular season record, Wade’s rpg doesn’t match up to LeBron’s and the Heat’s record doesn’t settle it with the Cav’s thats why LeBron got MVP. Cavs for ‘09 Champs!
May 5, 2009 at 9:29 am
ummm 1st of all NO MVP would ever ever lose n da 1st round. yea wade was great dis season but lebron had da best record n all dat stats just like last yr when i was kb24 vs lbj kobe had da best record and da stats. wade was a 5th seed. who lost n da1st round. n when he lost it was by like 20 pts n da 4 loses vs da hawks. no damn mvp would lose n da 1st round. wade needs sum more pieces. now mayb nxt yr if wade can get a #2 seed he mite finish 2nd n mvp race instead of 3rd. cuz LBJ is gone wit it again. and lbj is not my fav player kobe iz
May 5, 2009 at 9:26 am
congrats LBJ now get ready 2 lose 2 kobe n da finals
May 5, 2009 at 8:28 am

May 4, 2009 at 9:10 pm
no mvp gets a first round exit…lebron is better den wade….chris anderson is better den WADE!! haaa
chris anderson?…… log off of nicekicks and never return
May 5, 2009 at 8:23 am
the only mike that counts
^^^^ you couldn’t of explained that better….D-Wade got robbed point blank period. The miami heat were the laughing stock of the nba last year and now they were in the 5th playoff spot out of 8 eastern spots. D-Wade actually has a ring, and le’bron has none and if he don’t get one this year his chances are slim. It’s a popularity contest and D-Wade got robbed.
May 5, 2009 at 1:18 am
I’m tired of you cats talking about D-wade. Let’s take a look at the stats - (per game)
Scoring: Wade - 30 / Lebron - 28
Assist: Wade - 7 / Lebron - 7
Steals: Wade - 2.1 / Lebron - 1.7
Blocks: Wade - 1.3 / Lebron 1.15
That’s cool. D-wade should of have won MVP right??? Stats are comparable but Wade edged out Lebron on most individual categories but barely………
Now, let’s look at what really matters when individual stats are this close.
Cavs record: 66 - 16 (39 - 2 at home) (27 - 14 on the road)
Heat record: 43 - 39 (28 -13 at home) (15 - 26 on the road)
*** Looks like Lebron takes that easily
Cavs win their Division, Heat are 3rd in their division - Lebron again
Cavs have best record in the East, Miami’s record is 5th. - Lebron again
Cavs have best record in the league, at this point does it even matter with Miami??? - Lebron again
Cavs sweep the Pistons in the 1st round, Heat are going fishing compliments of the Hawks??? The Hawks???? You’re MVP couldn’t even get pass the Hawks.
Don’t tell me about who Wade has around him. Lebron had no one around him the year he went to the finals. THE FINALS. Wade will never see the finals if he had a roster like Lebron did that year. Matter of fact, you are seeing exactly how far D-wade will get with this current roster.
Do you want to talk about HYPE????? Wade has been getting just as much. Commercials blah, blah, blah ESPN blah, blah, T- Mobile blah, blah
Lebron is MVP. Wade fans shut up and enjoy the ring he won a couple of years ago.
May 4, 2009 at 11:36 pm
jerseycitystandup - Kobe has NEVER gotten a Finals MVP. Shaq got it each Championship - 2000-2002.
Get your info correct.
May 4, 2009 at 11:29 pm
And no way does Kobe “deserve” the MVP over LeBron, when he has Pau Gasol, Bynum, Lamar Odom AND Phil Jackson w/Tex Winter’s Triangle Offense.
You people are bozos!
May 4, 2009 at 11:27 pm
LMAO @ anyone thinking that Wade should’ve gotten MVP over LeBron.
WHAT NBA SEASON WERE YOU WATCHING???
May 4, 2009 at 9:28 pm
No doubt lebron is the 1 of the best today but kobe or especially D.Wade deserves it more than lebron, stern fixed this ish for his baby boy superstar…
May 4, 2009 at 9:10 pm
no mvp gets a first round exit…lebron is better den wade….chris anderson is better den WADE!! haaa
May 4, 2009 at 7:08 pm
congrats to lebron
May 4, 2009 at 6:47 pm
Dwyane Wade def. got robbed! =’[
May 4, 2009 at 6:22 pm
for all you who think wade deserves it cuz there’s no one around him, then how come lebron didn’t win it in 2007 when he took the cavs to the finals? who else was on that team ? big z, larry Hughes, Damon jones, boobie, drew gooden. there was nobody areound him. he did it all by himself and that’s why they got swept in the finals by the spurs.
May 4, 2009 at 6:03 pm
you’re right d-wade was robbed.was watching lebrons top ten plays of the season cant believ he never gets called for travelling.what a joke.fkn hypebeast.
May 4, 2009 at 5:39 pm
D-Wade got robbed
May 4, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Wade don’t gotta team behind him, if Wade didn’t play heat didn’t have a chance 2 win. At least LeBron has some support .
May 4, 2009 at 4:16 pm
D-Wade should be the mvp
May 4, 2009 at 3:55 pm
If kobe was on da cavs they wouldnt win that many games…and if lebron was on da lakers theyd win 70 somethin games…fcuk kobe
May 4, 2009 at 3:09 pm
kid look at lebrons team record. he made em become that good.
May 4, 2009 at 2:52 pm
F Lebron. KB24 all day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 4, 2009 at 2:51 pm
king of the court !!! next the ring…. mvp must be the shoes !!!!!
May 4, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Just because you lead the league in scoring does not mean that you get the MVP award… Thats all Wade did..
If thats the case, then Lebron should of won it last year, and Kobe two years in a row..
Didn’t Peja Stojakovic even lead the league in scoring? Well then, give it to him while we’re at it..
LeBron was even runner-up for DPOY, so you can’t say that he didn’t do as much as Wade did out on that court.
He turned the Cavaliers franchise around his ROOKIE YEAR….
Wes Unseld was the youngest, when he won it during his rookie year..
Lebron is the 8th youngest
May 4, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Congrats to LeBron, I’m a Kobe guy myself, but you can’t deny what LeBron did for the Cavs best record and 28 7 and 7. No question MVP this year. Can’t wait for the finals.
May 4, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Wow KB!!!!! I don’t care what Phil Jackson says. You ask Kobe who he thinks is better. Kobe played against MJ, in his prime - he knows what time it is!!!!!
I don’t want to hear any MJ talk come out of anybody’s mouth. That dude is the best thing to ever touch a basketball and the best thing that ever happened to basketball. Look at the hall of famers and top 50 of all time that couldn’t get a ring because of him. Karl Malone, John Stockton, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Reggie Miller…… need I go on?
Kobe is the best in the league right now and last year when he won the MVP they didn’t even have the best record in the league. You tell me about a “POPULARITY CONTEST”.
To be honest, this is the first year Lebron has lived up to the so called “marketing” you clowns are talking about. MJ proved everything on the court first and that’s what separates him from the rest. Wade and Kobe included.
Lebron deserved the MVP hands down this year and if he wins the chip all people will have to shut up including all Laker fans. MJ would’ve never loss to the Celtics in that Finals. He would have found a way to win as he always did instead of crying like Kobe was last year. He might be more talented than MJ according to PHIL JACKSON but he will never have the heart or desire and the will to win like MJ had. That’s something that Phil Jackson, Bynum or Gasol can’t help him with or teach or coach.
I’M OUT
May 4, 2009 at 1:46 pm
He deserves MVP
It just sucks that its so political with espn hyping the hell out of him. Everything has to be compared to Kobe. NOBODY has more talent than Kobe. Only ONE person can judge that, the person that has coached both Kobe and Jordan: Phil Jackson (who has said in several accounts kobe is the most talented)
Lebron is a beast, he has a body that nobody can match up with, just be realistic with him and where he stands. Don’t fall victim to the marketing
May 4, 2009 at 1:24 pm
Kobe has 3 rings cause of shaq…and no MVP finals dummy JErseycity sit down
May 4, 2009 at 1:16 pm
Lebron is MVP and SHOULD have won it too. Anyone who says Wade deserves based on stats is an idiot. If you take the points, rebounds, and assists totals from the 2 and add them up, Lebron has 43.3, Wade has 42.7. That should be enough said there but no, his efficientcy is better too with Lebron leading the league with 30.9 and Wade ( behind Lebron AND chris paul) with 29.3. Wade is the truth too but come on, open your eyes.
There is no reason why Wade should’ve won it nuff said. Lebron is the bomb, so is Kobe.
May 4, 2009 at 12:56 pm
LeBron won the MVP,Dwyane Wade is a good player and he’ll get his due, besides what does it look like giving D-Wade the MVP after his team got sent home yesterday By the A-Town Hawks?
May 4, 2009 at 12:41 pm
WADE DESERVES IT WAY MORE DEN LEBRON…LEBRON IS GOOD BUT WADE BRINGS THAT EXCITMENT TO THE GAME
May 4, 2009 at 12:35 pm
wade shouldve been MVP
May 4, 2009 at 12:35 pm
ani
May 4, 2009 at 12:25 pm
LEBRON is da best player in da NBA hands down…Kobe is whack..LBJ n Wade over kobe any day
kobe is whack???? he has 3 rings, Le’bron has 0 “zero”..kobe has mvp and finals mvp’s, Le’bron has yet to win a championship, end of story.
May 4, 2009 at 12:32 pm
dwayne wade or dwight howard deserves it…le’bron is good but its basically a popularity contest with the mvp awards now.
May 4, 2009 at 12:32 pm
jumpoffjune wat do u kno? u from nyc….when the last time the knicks won a ring?
May 4, 2009 at 12:25 pm
LEBRON is da best player in da NBA hands down…Kobe is whack..LBJ n Wade over kobe any day
May 4, 2009 at 12:20 pm
on another note…who was da youngest to win it?…wilt or wes unseld?
May 4, 2009 at 12:19 pm
miami only won 15 games last yr cuz dwayne was injured dummy…soo havin him healthy all yr was a gimme playoff spot…and dey still got eliminated by da damn hawks…hawks arent bad but cmon…lebron is the king homie…sho sum respect
May 4, 2009 at 12:17 pm
Dude is good but there is only one jordan and how does kobe not win the mvp they are going to win the championship?
May 4, 2009 at 12:06 pm
troy,
Good looking out there, but I was just drawing the connection to the AJ6. I can see how I could confuse alot of ppl though! MJ won his first MVP in ‘88 while busting ppl over the head wearing the AJ3
May 4, 2009 at 11:51 am
Robbery…the NBA wants Lebron James to succeed so bad it’s not even funny. Dwade took a team from 15 wins to a 5th seed in the playoffs in one year…WITH NO HELP FROM ANYONE, PERIOD. He has better stats, and a ring. Not to mention he doesn’t have Lerbons size or supporting cast and was still able to do the things he did with only Udonis Haslem as any kind of credible player on that team.
Like someone already said, the MVP is an INDIVIDUAL award and team record should not be drawn into the picture. NBA should care more about what is right and not about the politics.
Lebron is a bad ass, no one can argue that…but Dwade should have got it this year…ESPECIALLY with Steve Nash winning it back to back 2 years in a row. BS.
May 4, 2009 at 11:17 am
sorry to correct whoever wrote this entry , but jordan won an MVP before ever wearing the air jordan 6. He did win his first championship in the 6 though. his first MVP was in the 4 or 5 model. Let me know if you need me on the NICEKICKS.com team….lol
May 4, 2009 at 10:52 am
WELL DESERVED . HE IS A BEAST
May 4, 2009 at 10:51 am
ITS ALL ABOUT THE RING…STEVE NASH 2 years in a row…and his team got nowhere in the playoffs…FINALS MVP IS WHAT MATTERS! CAUSE THAT MEANS YOU GOT THE CHIP AND YOU HELD IT DOWN FOR YOUR CITY!!!!
May 4, 2009 at 10:50 am
the hardest working man in the nba. just think of all the fourth quaters he took off. Hope to see CAVS n LAKERS in the finals
May 4, 2009 at 10:47 am
These comments are hilarious! LeBron stole the MVP, he is the most popular player wit the media, Dwade is greater…cut it out. From the opening tip of the season LBJ has been dominating. Dwade came on strong during the second half of the season no doubt but it was LBJ’s year. Show the man some love. and for those who say DWade does more with less…..i dare u to name 3 players other than LeBron who were on the Cavs when he took them to the finals? Dwade had Posey, Shaq, GP, Haslem, J Will….all veteran ball players and 2 future HOF memebers. So stop hating on one or the other, they are both two of the greatest to ever do it so lets just enjoy them while we can…..go Magic!
May 4, 2009 at 10:35 am
this isn’t news to anyone.. he locked up that ward way early in the season. no one else stood a chance..
the name of this award should be the MEDIAS MOST POPULAR PLAYER.. this award is a joke. that’s why kobe wasn’t even trippin he didn’t get.. besides ITS ALL ABOUT WHO GETS FINALS MVP.
May 4, 2009 at 10:35 am
Playoffs…whatever. That’s a team effort. MVP is an individual award and Wade came through on the solo tip harder than anyone this season. The stats speak for themselves. First James steals Garnett’s chalk ritual, now he steals the MVP award. It’s all a popularity contest.

congrats to the king, lebron!
definite respect due!
now let’s get that ring.
May 4, 2009 at 10:31 am
Yes, I knew…! I am happy for him, he deserves it! Now, win the title LeBron!
May 4, 2009 at 10:27 am
WADE IS GOOD BUT LEBRON IS WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY BETTER AND WHOS TEAM IS FARTHER IN THE PLAYOFFS.
May 4, 2009 at 10:24 am
We Have Already WitnessED…Michael Jordan
May 4, 2009 at 10:19 am
LeBron deserves it more. He carried his team with just as much support as Wade (okay, maybe a bit more) to the top spot. Not just in the conference, the LEAGUE.
Well deserving, if I do say so.
May 4, 2009 at 10:17 am
Lebron deserves it. Wade can’t even hold a torch to what Lebron James has done for the Cavs.
May 4, 2009 at 10:05 am
1st
Lebron is a great player, he would deserve it, but I feel Wade deserves this more then anyone this year
