Air Force Friday: “LA 2″ Air Force 1

Air Force 1 LA 2Lakers fans are still pretty happy about yet another NBA Championship to add to the rafters. The last time the Lakers took home the Larry O’Brien trophy, the timing could not have been better with the release of an LA edition Air Force 1. Nike released an LA makeup of the Air Force 1 in the summer of 2001 (another championship year) and with the release of a second city series LA Air Force 1 and a second consecutive NBA championship, it looked like shoes were good luck to the city and the team.

This version dubbed the “LA 2″ by many was a retooled version of a general release with Nike LA branding on the tongue tag and stitched on the rear panel of the sneaker. A funny factoid about this shoe however was a mishap with many pairs where the LA was stitched backwards onto the sneaker landing at the outlets as B-Grades.

With another NBA Championship has LA earned another city series AF1?

  15. RETRO12s

whoa. “Drew”, how’d you notice that?? crazy stuff.

Ya i think these need more purple. They look like average AF1’s if you take the “LA” stitching off.

  16. brealz

Yeah that’s crazy it does look like a 24! Good eye Song, too bad KB is sooo nassssty to his haters. lol
N I agree mos def with a little more purple….stitching around the check maybe ? with a purp insole.
I still have these joints under the bed

  17. CIDETRAX

I have a pair of the b-grades and the purple and gold swoosh LA Editions of 2001. The leather on these are much better than the ones of today and these are super comfortable .

  18. Nice Kicks

Very interesting observation! These came out in 2002 while Kobe was still wearing #8 and was with Adidas.

  19. Drew

they made the LA look like 24 on purpose

  20. Song

that LA looks so much like a “24″ and i hate kobe, so these are fail

  21. Chad

personally I think they could’ve threwn in a lil more purple, that woulda really made these must buys as seeing nike just release a white and yellow af1 that looks really similar to these

  22. Javie
