Reebok Tells Gortat Jordan Tattoo Won’t ‘Fly’

For the most part, tattoos are with you for life; however, shoe deals are far from permanent. That said, Orlando Magic forward/center Marcin Gortat is now in the middle of a dilemma. Gortat, a Reebok brand member (but obviously a Michael Jordan fan) has been asked to cover up his Jordan Jumpman tattoo. In detail, Gortat was asked, by Reebok representatives, to cover the tattoo up or wear long socks. The tattoo, located on Gortat’s right leg, is a red Jumpman logo overlapped by the silhouette of a basketball. This subject raises a lot of eyebrows. Why would Reebok ask him to cover it up now when he’s had this tattoo for some time now? Better yet, with Reebok being owned by Adidas, is this Adidas’s response to Coach K covering up Dwight Howard’s sneakers in the US Olympic Basketball team photo this past summer? WHO CARES! Reebok has been losing it for a long time after they ruined the S. Carters, No one wears Reebok anymore They are jokes now thats why adidas OWNS them now. They should be happy Jordan’s logo is good for them hahaha.

Yep hate to say it but this was probably just some thought of hype by nicekicks because they broke this out before game 4 and in game 4 Gortat didnt have this tattoo covered up. He had on the medium height nba socks that stopped under the Tattoo. Seem like if this had been a major issue with Reebok he would have made some sort of change instead of losing a few dollars.

Last year, in his rookie year he plays (just few games) in Nike. So why Reebok sign him if they saw that tattoo (or they was blind?). I hope he will switch to Nike or JB, only cause Reeboks are ugly!

i feel he is paying homage to mike as a legend and not as a brand. when you think of mike you think of that logo and the player not his brand.

Ok, just to be clear I said Nike, not JB specifically. Of course JB aint signing Gortat. I’ve got a better chance at gettin a JB contract and I aint played in a pro league in 3 years AND never sniffed the NBA! (Summer League don’t count)

First and foremost, if you already had a McDonalds bag in your hand, then you wouldn’t need to go into Burger King in the first place, unless of course you’re a glutton. This worked out for reebok in the long run…..I dont think anybody realized Gortat was wearing reeboks to begin with.

Adidas sponsors the NBA, correct? Well, howcome everyone in the league doesn’t wear Adidas sneakers? Even those who AREN’T with a sponsor like Nike, And1, Reebok, Jordan, etc….

Gortat should say to Reebok, SUCK IT! Then when Reebok drops him, Nike swoops (or swooshes) in and signs him. Reebok wears a public dunce cap and Nike gets the good publicity once again. Then Reebok will be sticking their own foot (and their sh@%#tty kicks) in their collective mouths.

I mean if reebok pays the bills then i guess he needs to cover it up. By know means is he a superstar player so i doubt he has an enormous contract. Dont get me wrong he is in the NBA so its above average of course but if he can do without reebok contract then drop them immediately and wear Jordans the rest of the way in the Finals and Jordan Brand may bless him next season with some sort of contract. If i had the TATTOO i would be wearing JORDANs case closed. Its like wearing NBA socks and your in the NFL.

That’s sad if he has to cover up his Jordan tat. Regardless of brands Jordan is the greatest player and probably has influenced every single player in the NBA. The USA picture seems crazy. That is obviously no coincidence.
I don’t remember it exactly… However, when Jordan Pippen and someone else won Gold with the original Dream Team they didn’t want to wear their reebok logos. I believe it was Reebok who was sponsoring team USA at the time. They instead draped American flags around there necks to cover the label.

While I understand the reasoning behind rebooks request, I do think its silly. Its not as if Gortat is the posterboy for Reebok. Besides Gortats mintues have gone down in this series.
