Debate Continues Over Marcus Jordan’s Shoes
Posted by George Kiel III | Oct 20, 2009
We have shown you multiple Marcus Jordan PEs within the past couple of years in which many of you have positively commented on to say the least (see Air Jordan 9 & 10 PE). While there is no debate that these may be some of the nicest PEs seen to date, an argument continues to materialize over whether or not Marcus Jordan will be able to wear Jordan’s at all this basketball season. The University of Central Florida, Marcus Jordan’s current school, have a contract with Adidas; however, Marcus Jordan has obviously wore Jordan sneakers most, if not all of his life. It has been stated that Marcus will honor UCF’s contract with Adidas by wearing the Adidas apparel; yet, he will not partake in wearing Adidas sneakers on the court. UCF athletic director Keith Tribble stated that Marcus has the right to choose for himself seeing that a previous instance occurred with a football player deciding to wear a different brand sneaker due to the fit. On the contrary, adidas spokesperson Andrea Corso has confirmed that adidas and UCF have no agreement on the table at press time. With that said, do you think Marcus Jordan should be able to wear Jordan sneakers or do you feel that he has to respect the school’s contract with adidas totally? He should have to earn his way into wearing custom shoes. Even if MJ is his dad. No special treatment. What if he sucks, then he’s tarnished the Jordan name and shoe. Just being MJ’s son should be enough, no need to advertise it. Just be a team player then when you get daddy’s stats THEN lets talk about a shoe deal. He can wear J’s to class, lol.

He mj son wat u expekt.
Oct 25, 2009 at 8:42 am
Folks- 1st!! U HAVE TO HAVE A CONTRACT IN ORDER TO BREACH IT!!!
My former college Campbell University had an ADIDAS “contract” for the fellas but the model they had was the pro-model, they were horrible…the fellas constantly hurt their ankles in those 3/4. it was 97 so Kobe’s adidas model was out and a couple guys BOUGHT them and they seemed to work out, so it could be the FEEL of the shoe, THE CUT of the shoe, a number of things, MJ wore converse and adidas AND almost signed with them before NIKE came through….he should wear what feels best and if adidas cant provide like they would for a football team (lineman shoes vs running back shoes, NOTRE DAME, etc) then MJ should sponsor them….People keep in mind that BRAND NAMES INCLUDING COACHES attract (star) athletes and if his son can pull this off then its a good look for the school, the team and the area because it is a small school. IF LBJ AND KB can sponsor their former HIGH SCHOOLS with a version of their signatures shoes then JB can sponsor UCF. I mean AND1 did it too….and where are they now??? dont be too quick too judge when u feel good you play good and shoes are the priority and how many of u dont think that young MJ didnt know what shoes his school wore?? he had to visit so isnt it funny that they dont have a contract??? hmmmm Jeff went to Illinois and THEY wore nike….chill folks he may have a plan up his sleeve, but if it was dad i would have the illest J’s on the court, but NOT before my game got tight… AND THATS REAL, PEACE
Oct 24, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Wear the 3 stripes! I wear nothing but J’s and I completely understand wanting to where them, but honor the damn contract. If he’s going to hold his breath and be a baby, Daddy should bid a larger contract deal for JB. But, of coarse the team has to win first.
Oct 24, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Jordan dosn’t let ppl wear anything but JB in his house or around him .. i know that for a fact. So i doubt his son is wearing addias but he should. If the school has a contract then thats that i dont care if it was Obama’s son rules r rules.
Oct 24, 2009 at 6:54 pm
1st) Fars I know about UCF, they really dont have a contract with Adidas… So Marcus can really do wateva he wants in my opinion…
2nd)If some1 would wear adidas with an UNC uniform, every1 will raise hell about it…. But wat im tryin 2 say is Marcus is not goin 2 put himself in a situation when he cannot wear his pops shoes… And if u were the CEO/Head Honcho of Jordan will you let ur son where ur products @ all times??? Last time I remember, Adidas is not even allow @ his own house.
Oct 22, 2009 at 9:03 pm
If Marcus is allowed to wear any shoes other than what the whole team wears, contract or no contract, then any other player who opts to wear his shoes of choice, should likewise be allowed.
Adidas should sue UCF for breach of contract.
Oct 22, 2009 at 6:48 pm
spin613, yea ucf is garbage. do u guys even make the NIT? ok then
Oct 22, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Shoes dont have anything to do with him being a team player or not if he wants to wear jordans they should let him, why would they make a big deal out of it now the school adidas is looking bad.
Oct 21, 2009 at 8:52 pm
um ok
Oct 21, 2009 at 8:40 pm
alot of yall r really hatin..let da man wear watever he wants..and if he really wanted to he could get his dad to sponsor da whole dam school..if u ball in jays ur whole life n then jus have to change it up ur feet will b pretty upset n it will show on the court
Oct 21, 2009 at 3:01 pm
So for Marcus Jordan, it’s about ME, not We.
Oct 21, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Learn to read.
As of press time, UCF and Adidas DO NOT HAVE A CONTRACT IN PLACE.
So its a mute point. This “team” BS is blown way out of proportion. Save that “We are one” crap for the Marines.
Oct 21, 2009 at 12:44 pm
If there is a contract, he has to wear Adidas. Last time I checked, he was playing for a TEAM, not for his pops and if the TEAM must wear Adidas, so must he.
Oct 21, 2009 at 12:30 pm
Where do I start?
B-radballa:
UCF sucks huh? Its a D1 school in a major conference. And I happened to CHOOSE to play there comin out of HS. Where did you play? Ok then.
Nightwing:
Marcus Jordan sucks does he? Have you played him? Did you play ball at a D1 school? Sounds like someone is just bitter. Publicity, good or bad, always brings haters out of the woodworks.
Nucleus:
You’ve never even heard of UCF? Its actually the largest University in the state of Florida, is in Conference USA and boasts alumni such as Daunte Culpepper and recent 2nd round NBA draft choice Jermaine Taylor. Brush up on your NCAA.
And again, bottom line, you can all preach about “team” and his “scholorship” and “he sucks”, but not one of you wouldn’t trade places with the kid in a second! Jordan’s kid, PE’s, all that sh*t. You’d all eat it up and can’t act like you wouldn’t.
This is a huge deal about nothin. I went there and didn’t wear Adidas once! No one cared, it wasn’t in the media. Why? I’m not the son of the GOAT. The school didn’t care then and they don’t now. This is just becoming a huge deal cuz of the name. Period!
Oct 21, 2009 at 12:25 pm
I’m sure if you go to FIU Mr. Thomas won’t have any problem letting you wear whatever you want.
Oct 21, 2009 at 12:21 pm
I just hate being limited to 1 kind of shoe. I love my J’s but I can’t imagine only wearing them. AND in my opinion, those PEs were ugly.
Oct 21, 2009 at 11:38 am
Is this a free country or not?
Oct 21, 2009 at 10:57 am
My coach tried to do this in college and had us wearing Adidas and it didn’t work. We all had blisters and messed up feet because we had to wear those sorry ass pro models. We ended up going back to Nike after the first semester.
Oct 21, 2009 at 10:09 am
That happened to a friend of mine…. He’s plays for the Houston Rockets (Division 2 league under the PROS)
They also have an Adidas contract…. He always hated to wear them, because he never found them supportive……
First 2 games… He was not signed… (therefore did NOT have to wear Adidias) by the third he was signed, it was mandatory that ALL PLAYERS wear Adidas… an what do you know…..
He caught a Baaaad ankle fracture the first time wearing them!!!…
(I can’t remember what adidas shoe he was wearing…. ) so he’s been on the bench since STILL trying to recover!!! )
and he never BROKE are TWISTED anything in his life!!!!
I think in my opinion… SHOE’s are different from apparel… The fit is different.. the support… everything, therefore…
I don’t think shoes should be included in the contract….
Oct 21, 2009 at 8:23 am
If Adidas sponsors the school and its athletes then he should wear Adidas he knew this before he signed, he has all the time in the world to rock Jordans he has access to any Jordan he wants but this is a business and he is messing up the business for UCF. Unless Jordan will sponsor the entire school then ok drop Adidas and pick up the Jordan brand, but this is a classic view people with status and money doing what they want regardless of the rules. Im sure if one of us were in this position we would have no choice but to wear Adidas or not play. Im a Jordan junkie as far as sneakers but Marcus should just wear Adidas or go somewhere were he can wear Jordans.
Oct 21, 2009 at 6:34 am
I only wish this would be a bit bigger in the media so Trey Parker and Matt Stone would tear this “kid” a new @ss in an upcoming South Park episode. What a baby … can’t stand spoiled “My Super Sweet 16″ children like this.
Marcus … man up, dude, and focus on getting better at hoops then worrying about what’s on your feet when playing. Just remember, you have tons of PEs and you can rock those outside of UCF practices/games and film in future YouTube vids. You knew what was going to be the requirements before signing …. so you made your bed, you lie in it.
Oct 21, 2009 at 4:20 am
Marcus Jordan should obviously wear Jordan’s. UCF chose to have a contract with Adidas, but Marcus and his teammates had no say in that.
Oct 21, 2009 at 4:14 am
adidas has the chance to redeem themselves by not signing Mike to a shoe contract, give Marcus a shoe contract to exorcise the demons of the past that haunted their company for 3 decades, LOL!
Oct 21, 2009 at 12:58 am
I think he should wear knee high boots
Oct 20, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Honor thy Father…and the greatest…
Oct 20, 2009 at 11:19 pm
na let him wear whatever shoe he feals most comfortable in…..would any of you play ball in somthing that dont feal right?
Oct 20, 2009 at 11:19 pm
Why should he wear adidas? If he doesnt want to then he shouldn’t… He made the team fair and square… he signed no contract with adidas… the school did… It’s not up to him to honor that contract… Its up to the school to honor the contract and provide their players with adidas gear… and its up to the players to deciide if it meets their needs and standards.
Oct 20, 2009 at 11:11 pm
he should wear whatever the team wears…then if he makes it to the pros he can wear whatever shoe he wants.
Oct 20, 2009 at 10:35 pm
sorry he should wear what ever the school is wearing, no offense to Jordan’s son. Marcus should be happy that the school took him in on their team he should not be able to walk around like he owns the team iff he would good enough than a team that is sponsored by jordans shoulda drafted him like UNC? ahahaah
Oct 20, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Wilbon said it best: every one looks the same with their uniforms and team apparel. The only choice you have is your footwear, and you should be able to express yourself.
Oct 20, 2009 at 8:54 pm
this is all for promo Marcus is gonna ride the bench and wear Jordan 11’s he was an average high school player who only blew up because of his father. Its sad Marcus took someone spot who could have actually contributed for the team. Pussy
Oct 20, 2009 at 8:45 pm
promodel and jordan 1 fusions!!!!!! hahahahah
Oct 20, 2009 at 8:21 pm
im rockin Js if im marcus the hell with adidas
Oct 20, 2009 at 7:54 pm
I think that every player should be able to wear whatever shoes are most comfortable. whether it be nike, jordan, adidas, etc.
Oct 20, 2009 at 7:03 pm
aw…… hell no
Oct 20, 2009 at 6:55 pm
Is he even going to start??!!
Oct 20, 2009 at 6:45 pm
who cares.. no one is going to see him play.. its UCF.. its not like those games are on TV…
Oct 20, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Shouldn’t he have thought of that before playing ball for UCF?? Last time I checked, collegiate athletes were forbidden to accept money and gifts, let alone have an endorsement deal. Play ball, Air Gordan!
Oct 20, 2009 at 6:15 pm
i don’t give a flying eff about some endorsement contract a school has with a company. it’s just part of the hypocrisy that surrounds college hoops. that said, he should wear the same kicks as the rest of the team. nobody is above the team.
Oct 20, 2009 at 6:13 pm
He should be able to wear whatever shoes he wants. Only the jersey and shorts have the team name on it. His shoes just have to be in sync. This is BS! Next>>>>>
Oct 20, 2009 at 6:13 pm
They being jerks because hes a balck man
Oct 20, 2009 at 6:07 pm
SIMPLE drop the adidas contract and let MJ provide there gear, wear the space jam thats really nice on there school jersey.
Oct 20, 2009 at 5:59 pm
He’s playing for the school, not adidas! that being said. What about coaches that switch from one shoe company to another?
Oct 20, 2009 at 5:38 pm
I’d hate to have to wear a brand because of a contract that my school has - I tried wearing adidas sneaks for balling but they were horrible… no cushioning, no court feel, too narrow, generally uncomfortable - wouldn’t the school rather the kid plays in shoes he’s comfortable in?
Oct 20, 2009 at 5:21 pm
“adidas spokesperson Andrea Corso has confirmed that adidas and UCF have no agreement on the table at press time.”
Based on this statement, he can wear whatever he wants.
Also, he goes to UCF? Never heard of it.
And to quote MJ about his kids, “I wouldn’t want to be you guys.”
Oct 20, 2009 at 4:38 pm
I consulted the great Dallas Penn on this matter, he said…………… “FUX YO ADIDAS”!!!!!!!!!!
Oct 20, 2009 at 4:15 pm
he should were the addidas despite the fact that he has worn j’s all his life becuase its about the team and not all about what shoe you like or don’t like
Oct 20, 2009 at 4:00 pm
I can’t believe we’re even spending time on this topic–it’s like all major media networks covering that fricking silver balloon (with nobody in it) for 24 hrs.
Marcus Jordan will where whatever the @$#$ he wants to because Central Florida is counting on MJ sending in a big fatty-fat donation to the schools athletic fund (this is how it works, folks).
Marcus wouldn’t be the first college player to stray away from the team’s brand…no big deal.
I do love those PE’s…so I hope the team lets it slide.
Oct 20, 2009 at 3:54 pm
he shudv went 2 a diff school.he’s not biggr than the school, so he shud rock the stripes.make a name for urself.try 2 corner the market.who is marcus jordan?LOL.
Oct 20, 2009 at 3:44 pm
One he should have went ot a Jordan Brand school. Im sure if he was good enough he would be at his dads UNC or Cincy or Gtown but he is not. Personally I live in Florida and actually have planned going to a few games just to maybe see his dad there. But I would like to see his UCF PE’s, who really cares about Adidas anyway. If they dont have a deal on the table and its just for apparrel what are we even talking about it for?
Oct 20, 2009 at 3:24 pm
This same problem has been faced by pro swimmers in the last 2 years.
Solution: wear Jordans that have no logos or branding on them.
Oct 20, 2009 at 3:05 pm
Being payed by the school to wear a certain brand is not what its about. The guys on the team get their scholarships paid for 100% because a company has made a contract with the school and pays big money to have players endorse the product. These guys get to go to school for free where it would cost me hundreds of thousands just to go for the full 4 years just because they play ball. So imo this kid should keep his mouth shut. The reason why he is at this school and not playing for a Jordan endorsed team is because he sucks. He isnt good enough to go to a contender, they dont need him. Overall this is a business for both the brand and the school… each of them gets a good deal out of it. So just wear the Adidas and stop whining… Jordan has even said this himself, kids now days think they are owed something without them even earning it first. This kid has earned nothing, he has been born into the royal family and acts like a royal a$$
Oct 20, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Let him wear his Jordans. When I was on my team one yar we wore nikes and another year we wore converse. I hooped in Jordans and Iversons as long as they were team colors!
Oct 20, 2009 at 2:59 pm
i actually take that back. i striclty ball in nikes and wouldnt want to be wearing adidas. not because of the brand but the way they perform and feel
Oct 20, 2009 at 2:58 pm
Jordan’s son would never rock adidas.
Oct 20, 2009 at 2:57 pm
thats just pure selfishness
Oct 20, 2009 at 2:55 pm
Maybe he should have just gone to a school that didn’t have a contract with the 3 stripes… just sayin…
Oct 20, 2009 at 2:43 pm
I remeber a few years ago at Arkansas st. a kid signed to play and the school switched to Adidas but the kid didn’t like wearing Adidas cause he had a bad injury in a pair. So they let him play in Nikes. I think the school should let him play in whatever he chooses he isn’t being payed by the school to represent adidas. it is the school that has a contract not the individual.
Oct 20, 2009 at 2:37 pm
shoes dont matter if you are REALLY good at basketball. I bet Lebron could still put up a triple double in some blazers, dunkin and everything.
Oct 20, 2009 at 2:30 pm
stop suckin marcus and let him be…who gives a rats ass.
Oct 20, 2009 at 2:24 pm
He’s on a school team that has a contract to adidas. So what he is Jordan’s son. Suck it up. Wear your Jays to practice and after the game.
Oct 20, 2009 at 2:06 pm
he should be able to wear Jordan’s shoes…
Oct 20, 2009 at 2:04 pm
yea shouldnt be a big deal but i know one thing! if i was playin with him he’d HAVE to hook me up with some pairs ill be damned if he rocks some nice PEs while im stuck with some weak sh*t lol
Oct 20, 2009 at 2:01 pm
I think he should def stick with wearing what the rest of the team wears. That’s what being on a team is about. He isn’t endorsed by JB, so he has no obligation to wear those shoes. However, UCF is endorsed by adidas. It’s contracted to wear the gear that adidas supplies. There aren’t any players that are above their entire team, so he should show some respect for the contractual agreement and, beyond that, team unity, and just play in the adidas. He can wear JBs any other day, any other time, for any other team.
Oct 20, 2009 at 1:58 pm
dope! wear them jay’s boi!
Oct 20, 2009 at 1:57 pm
jordans r way better in every way in my opinion!!! both for style n performance!!!im with most of you, if shoes were just shoes we would all juz by watever right!! so since jordan is better dan adidas i would definately stick to jordans!!!
Oct 20, 2009 at 1:47 pm
nah thats seperating yourself from the team in my opinion which you already have cuz he is jordans son but when u go to college its one team no priveleges on the other hand i played ball by a school that was sponsored by new balance and i wanted to wear my nike cleats lol but it was d3 so it was a lot more irrelevant
Oct 20, 2009 at 1:35 pm
it’s a business decision that UCF and Adidas have to make. Adidas is NOT going to let any University out of a contract unless it benefits both parties. we don’t know the specifics of the school’s contract so we can say exactly what’s going to happen but if UCF breaches it’s contract best believe money is going to be lost/some is going to get sued.
if it matters so much then let Brand Jordan buy UCF out of their contract and outfit the whole team from head to toe. the sneaker fan in me wants Marcus to do the damn thing but the former college athlete and business man feels like he is being selfish. he knew what UCF wore before he signed and should have made moves accordingly.
Oct 20, 2009 at 1:33 pm
adidas. hes a part of a team and thats what the team wears. maybe if he went to a real school and was actually pretty good, let him wear what he wants. but who goes to ucf to play basketball? especially the son of the greatest ever. he should have gone to fsu or any other team that will actually make the tourney
Oct 20, 2009 at 1:23 pm
If he’s really good he can wear the Jordans, if not Adidas with the rest of the bums at UCF!
Oct 20, 2009 at 1:19 pm
he f-in sucks make him wear adidas
Oct 20, 2009 at 1:14 pm
@SPIN613
another great point
Oct 20, 2009 at 1:11 pm
Just as a side note (and call me what you want) but in HS I went to a Catholic Academy. Lot of kids with $$$ who could afford whatever. Our “team” decided to wear some team colored Converse that year.
Sorry, but damn the team. Its a performance issue no matter what you say. I was not havin my sh*t wrecked in some $75 Converse.
I wore Jordans in every game and every practice and ran my laps with pride for not “conforming to team rules.”
It does matter and any real ball player can confirm it. Otherwise we’d all just go out and buy whatever if shoes were just shoes.
Oct 20, 2009 at 1:10 pm
debate?
Oct 20, 2009 at 1:07 pm
Just Rod, if shoes are shoes, what are you doing on this website??
Oct 20, 2009 at 1:07 pm
@Duane EXACTLY
Oct 20, 2009 at 1:06 pm
wear the Jays but in the UCF colorway….forget adidas!!
Oct 20, 2009 at 1:03 pm
Shoes are shoes. The thing about havin da same shoes as the team is a uniform thing. It’s also about discipline but if the man prefers to wear j’s let him wear them as long as he producin for da team y it matter
Oct 20, 2009 at 1:00 pm
When it’s a question between FAMILY TIES or SCHOOL TIES, family should win out everytime.
Oct 20, 2009 at 12:58 pm
I agree. Adidas aint payin him, they are payin the school.
The players get free gear and for most of them, its a gift. He actually doesn’t have to worry about freebies, so let him wear whatever. Too big if an issue to matter.
Good or bad, always interesting to see some pub for my alma mater. Now let’s see if he is better than his bro as published or if he flames out too.
Funny thing is, Jeff wore team Nike’s at Illinois, he didn’t usually play games in his PE’s.
Oct 20, 2009 at 12:50 pm
he should wear what everyone else on the team wears. we all love j’s but what it boils down to is this. The game of basketball is not a fashion show.
Oct 20, 2009 at 12:48 pm
How can the son of the great one not wear j’s?!?!??? Adidas should let this one go even if Marcus states that his reason is to honor MJ and not the fit of the shoe. Dwight Howard is signed to adidas and in the olympics, he played in those, but his other teamates played in Nike apparel. Who cares. I think that even happens with some of us. I run alot and I love Nike apparel, but I hate their running shoes, my fav pair if running shoes are new balance….
Oct 20, 2009 at 12:48 pm
I think if they not gonna chip the dude off some cheese for the contract then ALL players should have the right to choose whatever brand they want ! I was wondering when this was gonna come up being that most ballers get put in programs by these same companies. Yall never wondered why a kat picks a school with the same shoe contract as thier aau or high school ?
Oct 20, 2009 at 12:46 pm
I wonder if he’ll make it to the NBA
Oct 20, 2009 at 12:44 pm
a everyone jordan has been his iconic step on tto the harwood because he is not an all american player at alll lol that the only thing keeping him playin because he is wack
Oct 20, 2009 at 12:42 pm
Let that Boy wear what he wants to wear,Who care if UCF is signed with ADIDAS,that shouldn’t matter at all…
Oct 20, 2009 at 12:38 pm
And so what, trust me if you are use to playing in sertain shoes, then put on another brand, it going to feel weird. Let him play in what he feels comfy in, his there toi play ball, not to have a fashion show.
Oct 20, 2009 at 12:38 pm
its as simple as this if he was a jordan or not unless student-ath are get’n some of that endorsment money they should be able to wear what ever shoe they want
Oct 20, 2009 at 12:36 pm
As a college athlete myself, i would say that he should follow the dress code on the court. UCF is lucky enough to be sponsored by adidas and all their athletes should honor that. Just because he’s MJ’s son doesn’t mean he can do what he wants in the basketball world. If he did, he should’ve signed to North Carolina
Oct 20, 2009 at 12:35 pm
this is crap!!!
Oct 20, 2009 at 12:35 pm
is he good
Oct 20, 2009 at 12:32 pm
Shouldn’t matter but if it does cover the jumpman and play some
damn ball.
Oct 20, 2009 at 12:30 pm
Hes Michael Jordans son of course he should be able to wear Jordans on the court, and Im not just saying that cus I love MJ and the shoes.
