DC rapper Wale is quickly establishing himself as the most aware sneaker-head in the rap game around these parts. Not only did he get his hands on the Copper Foamposites early, he also seems to wear a new impressive pair of sneakers at every awards show, concert or red-carpet event.
So how does he stack up against the O.G. Jay-Z? We pinned the two against each other in this Jordan III edition of footwear faceoff, just in time for the two to be performing in Austin, TX (Nice Kicks’ backyard) on 11/10. im sayin Hov got this 1…Wale matched up nicely with the BBC jacket but it looked like he was doing too much…HOV kept it simple and still managed to compliment the kicks with a PLAYCLOTHES shirt…it looks effortless and still fly…definition of swagger…

Jay isn’t a sneaker head,dude been rocking Jordans from before you could afford them. what does his contribution to the sneaker culture have to do with who rocked it better? from the 2 pics its obvious Jay rocked it better. Yeah Wale has a bigger love for kicks then Jay but from the 2 Pics above Jay rocked it better keeping it simple works sometimes. Wale did too much which takes away from the shoe he doesn’t even look comfortable in that oversized jacket someone obviously dressed him. if you feel Jay never contributed to the sneaker culture don’t forget about those (ugly) S.Carters he had millions of people rocking.

look at it like this, for real. Jay coppin’ the 6’s in ‘99 is the equivalent of someone coppin’ a pair of 6’s if they was to drop now. Plenty folks cop but aren’t shoeheads. I’m not trynna start a flame war…but, hear me when I say I am an AJ 3 HEAD so I speak from the heart and this is strictly out of love for this special edition of Air Jordans.
Now,
ELEPHANT PRINT is what you called the GREY of the AJ3′S when you had OG 88 RELEASES.
Why?
Because you were most likely a shorty when these dropped and didn’t know any better on what else to call ‘em.
Plus the OG AJ 3 had smooth texture.
I’m not gonna speak on my age…but, I wore an 8.5 when these came out and had all the colorways.
Walk with me.
When the first 94 Retro… the grey portion of the shoe still being referred to ELEPHANT PRINT.
Why?
Because you still had attachment to the OG.
But when that 2001 3rd Retro dropped??
Cats grew up and actually started READING THE BOX and the name CEMENTS started to leak into sneakerhead culture.
In 03 is was solidified.
And in 09 it damn sure is solidified because the texture of the once named ELEPHANT PRINT no longer feels like Elephant…it feels like and looks like cracks in CEMENT.
Like the shoe, the term has evolved.
So, unless you rockin’ OG 88s…
which I hope you’re not because you’re shoes about to CRACK APART
