Last night at the Brooklyn Museum, Jordan Brand hosted a special event to celebrate the KAWS x Air Jordan collection that debuted in China on the 28th and officially everywhere else yesterday on the 31st of March.
While no online release happened for the KAWS x Air Jordan 4 yesterday with the select retail partners who had the collection, many assumed that they would release on their release date on KAWS’ site, kawsone.com.
As images and video of the event last night surfaced on social media, many fans who had been refreshing the site throughout the day started to wonder if the release was ever going to happen – which it did not.
KAWS, legally known as Brian Donnelly, became aware of the frustration of many and addressed them in an Instagram post that we have embedded below:
I’m seeing a lot of comments from people upset about my website not releasing the product today but I never mentioned product would be on my site today. For every release on kawsone I have sent a mailer the day before announcing the release and time it will go live. I wish I caught wind of this sooner so I could prevent wasted time and expectations.
While it wasn’t definitively clear about the release like most sneaker releases by Jordan or other brands, I think that sneakerheads need to consider that this project was a collaboration with a world renowned artist. An artist that has every right to release his work how he sees fit with his brand and for his fan base which he has an excellent reputation with for many years.
Stay tuned for updates on this release and all others on Nice Kicks and be sure to follow KAWS on Instagram as well.
