Last night, Nice Kicks teamed up with ObsessiveSneakerDisorder to bring the first ever live sneaker awards ceremony, The Nice Kicks 2008 Kixpy’s Award Show. With some serious sneakerhead celebrities in attendance, the red carpet was so full of heat it took some of the big names a while to make their way in to the show. Some “1 of Nothing” kicks, along with some upcoming All Star exclusives were seen, even some kicks that “allegedly” changed color as one of the guests crossed the International Dateline to make it to the show.

Once the red carpet emptied and the show began, some big surprises took place! As with as with most awards shows there was more controversy than a Jerry Springer Episode. The Jordan categories saw some OG colorways battle it out, along with some serious heat in the Best Collab, and Best Signature Shoe categories. While the Air Force 1 of the Year award was…well you’ll just have to read about it. Thankfully there was no e-stabbings or too much violence, but you can bet we’ll be stepping up the security for next years show.

Now, on to the results of the Nice Kicks 2008 Kixpy’s Awards.

Against the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers guard Fred Jones hooped in the Air Jordan 11 Black/Red-White from the infamous CDP. Although style-wise this is arguably one of the best sneakers, is it a basketball-friendly sneaker? How does it look with the Clippers jerseys?

On another note, LeBron James went head-to-head with one of his good friends last night, Dwyane Wade. Both of them were part of the “Redeem Team” this past summer, and King James reminded us of that by wearing his Nike Zoom LeBron 6 “United We Rise”. If you recall, James played in this exact sneaker during the 2009 Olympics championship game against Spain.

Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose and Memphis Grizzlies guard O.J. Mayo are currently leading the NBA rookies in most of the more important statistical categories. With that said, the Rookie of the Year Award chase will probably come down to the last couple of games; however, we have another debate for you, the readers, to choose right now. Although neither player possesses his own signature sneaker yet, which rookie has the best PE?

According to you, O.J. Mayo hoops in one of the nicest Nike Hyperdunk PE seen this year. Featuring the Memphis Grizzlies colorway, it contains a predominately black upper with sky blue and yellow accents on the shoelaces, side panels, tongue and heel. On the other hand, Derrick Rose has played in two different colorways of his Adidas TS Creator. This particular colorway is arguably the best one. It features a predominately black upper with red and white accents to match those alternate black Chicago Bulls jerseys we have all come to love. Rose vs Mayo. Nike vs Adidas. Which one is it?

In our Kicks On Court today, we spotlight two NBA All-Stars, Josh Howard and Kobe Bryant, hooping in some exclusive sneakers this past weekend. Kobe Bryant finally played in the ‘Home’ colorway of the Nike Zoom Kobe 4, while Josh Howard became the first Jordan member to wear the Jordan True Flight model this season.

The Jordan True Flight has been the subject of a lot of controversy ever since photos have surfaced. It has been a love/hate sneaker seeing that many people feel it looks too much like the Air Jordan 7. However, others are impatiently anticipating the 2009 release date. Expect to see more JB members wearing the Jordan True Flight in the near future.

As far as the Kobe 4, we have already seen many colorways including the “Venom”, “Chaos”, and the Christmas Edition. The home colorway seems to be the most subtle yet. Which colorway interest you the most?

For many years now, Christmas Day has always brought us some memorable basketball games. Similar to Thanksgiving and football, we can always count on the NBA to entertain us during the holidays. If you watched yesterday’s NBA coverage, you saw some great games, namely the Boston Vs LA match; however, our Kicks On Court spotted some of your favorite basketball players sporting special holiday season PEs including LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.

For example, LeBron James sported the 100th colorway (not really) of his latest sneaker called the Nike Zoom LeBron 6 “Chalk”. We also spotted Kobe Bryant hooping in a Christmas edition of the Nike Zoom Kobe 4, yet, he was not the only person in the Staples Center sporting this sneaker. Along with Trevor Ariza, many of the Lakers courtside seats’ fans also had purple colorways of the Nike Zoom Kobe 4.

Last night, against the San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings combo guard Bobby Jackson played in the Air Jordan 23 Low Black. Performance wise, the Jordan 23 is said to be above any other Air Jordan yet. With that said, we have seen this sneaker worn numerous times during this season by players such as Mike Bibby, Chris Paul and Kevin Martin. The latter player mentioned is Jackson’s teammate and also a Jordan Brand member. Can anyone explain how Bobby might have received these?

This past weekend, we spotlighted Kobe Bryant debuting his latest sneaker, the Nike Zoom Kobe 4 “Venom”. In our Kicks On Court today, we spotted Kobe Bryant and his teammate Trevor Ariza sporting a different colorway of this highly-anticipated sneaker.

The glaring difference between the Nike Zoom Kobe 4 “Venom” he wore against the Miami Heat and the “Carpe Diem” he sported against the Orlando Magic is the toe box and midsole. The “Venom” featured a purple toe box with a black midsole, and heel, while the regular “Carpe Diem” possessed a grey midsole, purple heel and black toe box. As far as Trevor Ariza, it must be nice to be Kobe Bryant’s teammate! Which colorway interest you the most?
