Staple x Airwalk Collection Available NowThere has been much talk and debate about Jeff Staple’s move to work with Airwalk on a line of products sold at Payless Shoes, but all feelings and emotions aside the shoes are available now at Payless stores nationwide and online at Payless.com.  The collection showcases some familiar silhouettes of Airwalk brought back with touches and colors selected by the careful curation of Staple Design.

While Staple and the infamous pigeon is usually associated with “unattainable” whether it be for extremely limited quantities, selective distribution, or a far reaching price, one can purchase the shoes from the Staple x Airwalk collection starting at only $29.99.

Staple x New Balance 575 “White Pigeon”

Staple x New Balance 575 Pigeon WhiteJeff Staple’s tried and true Pigeon colorway gets a slight twist in this latest New Balance collab.

The Staple x New Balance 575 “White Pigeon” still features the some of the standard pigeon elements, including the image embroidered into the heel, and NYC image on the tongue. Instead of the standard grey that we know and love about the Pigeon Colorway, the “White Pigeon” is exactly that, white.

Look for these to arrive at retailers in August, more than likely in limited numbers.

Is Jeff Staple x Airwalk a good fit?

STPL x Airwalk GambitIf Drake has enough buzz to sell blank discs, then the sneaker equivalent has to be Jeff Staple selling Airwalks. The fruits of labor from the partnership of Staple Design and Airwalk, that has had the sneaker community buzzing for a number of months now, has finally ripened. The double labeled kicks have started to arrive at Payless Shoe Stores, is anyone lined up?

As someone who grew up in the era that saw the pinnacle of Airwalk’s popularity, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t excited to see someone like Jeff lend a hand to the struggling footwear company. Aside from those feelings, I admire Staple for stepping outside the cultural glass box that seems to restrain the creativity of so many people in the streetwear and sneaker industries. I’ve never had any doubts in his abilities to succeed in this partnership. I can also completely understand why Airwalk was the perfect fit, the challenge.

History of Jeff Staple’s Pigeon Collabs

History of Jeff Staple Pigeon CollabsYou can thank Jeff Staple for a number of contributions to the sneaker and streetwear culture, but his work with the Pigeon holds status that few can touch. Four years since the release that caused a ruckus in the Lower East Side that headlined the NY Post, Jeff has carried his pet pigeon along the ride as a staple element of his many collabs on sneakers and other essentials.

Staple x Airwalk 2009 Preview

Staple x Airwalk 2009 PreviewWith recent news that Pigeon Pusher, Jeff Staple, is teamed up with Airwalk for new partnership to come to fruition in 2009.

Some pics from the R & D meetings were posted on Jeff’s blog, which is like a trip down memory lane for some. The tennis ball Airwalk’s from many years ago were inspiration for the Alife Ball-Out’s. While the basketball joints from back in the day, could have easily been inspiration for those Jordan 22’s that dropped more recently. There will most likely be an 80’s/90’s influence on the releases, as Airwalk’s best days were back then. With the Beastie Boys’ Oscilloscope logo in the mix, collabs with the old school hip hop’ers might even be a part of the mix.

You can knock Airwalk all you want, and even question Jeff’s decision, but if you are looking for a challenge in the sneaker industry, bringing Airwalk from the bargain basement, back to a front runner in the shoe game, would be the ultimate accomplishment.

Converse x Staple “Pigeons”

Converse x Staple PigeonsJeff Staple is at it again, this time teaming up with Converse for the Converse x Staple “Pigeon” sneaker.

When Jeff Staple puts his iconic “pigeon” logo or colorway onto anything, it turns to gold. Previous releases include Nike Dunks, which will set you back about $2000 on eBay, the New Balance 575, which can be had for about $400, and New Era fitteds, which are considered a steal at about $75. These Converse feature the stitched pigeon icon on the tongue, and the now standard “pigeon” issue coloring, grey and salmon-orange.

We can only expect the same from these future (hopefully) releases. Not much info is available now, but we’ll keep you updated.
