Throwback Thursday - Reebok Shaqnosis
Shaq bounced out of Baton Rouge early for the NBA becoming the first pick of the ‘92 draft. Immediately he laced a sneaker deal with Reebok and immediately began tearing down backboards while wearing his Shaq signature shoes. One of the most recognizable shoes Shaq wore while on Team Reebok was the Shaqnosis. This hypnotizing upper was far ahead of its time for style, but fit right in with other mid 90’s Reebok basketball shoes including the Kamikaze and the Blast.
Diesel’s Shaqnosis’ were slightly different from those released to the general public. He laced up in a higher high top that gave the shoe more strength for his size 22 feet! (Now he is size 23) Never mind the unique style of the shoes, the tech was not sacrificed in any way. The shoes sported Reebok Hexalite cushioning in both the forefoot and the heel including the cup form that went up the sides a little bit for added heel support. Maybe remembered more for its looks, the Shaqnosis still has not been seen at retail doors since its release 14 years ago. Only time will tell if Reebok brings the Shaqnosis back, but we can only hope. Hypothetically, if they were to return, would you buy? |

Maybe for the right price.
Comment by solesaved — April 24, 2008 @ 1:25 pm
i think i would cop. and that mitchell and ness jersey is sick. especially the blue with the pin stripes. i almost copped that in december.
Comment by matferryhead — April 24, 2008 @ 1:26 pm
Correct me if I am wrong, but weren’t these only $100 back in the day?
Comment by Nice Kicks — April 24, 2008 @ 1:32 pm
One element will go if these are retroed.
Either the Dunkman (if Reebok drops them) or, could you imagine, the Vector (if Shaq brand drops them).
My money’s on the former, but they should definitely be done. And in some colorways that make known the capability of the wacky styling. Folks with epilepsy had to look away from these shoes.
Comment by Kuahmel — April 24, 2008 @ 1:35 pm
man shaq should have stayed wit reebok
Comment by YYsMen — April 24, 2008 @ 1:36 pm

Comment by TR3V!N — April 24, 2008 @ 1:38 pm
you guys are trippin hard to not want to see these come back.
Reebok NEEDS something other than just the same old Pumps. Bring these, the Kemps, and the Blasts back and celebrate the GOOD days of reebok basketball.
Nice post as usual Matt. Thursday is always my favorite day of the week.
Comment by sneakFREAK — April 24, 2008 @ 1:39 pm
KEEP EM COMING! I REMEMBER THESE. I WAS YOUNG BUT YEP, THESE ARE CLASSIC. wasn’t 100$ allot for that time though?
Comment by bkbigjay — April 24, 2008 @ 1:42 pm
sneakfreak I am with you
I would love for people’s ages to be put next to their names to be honest because i bet a lot of the hate is coming from youngins who think that if it aint a Jordan or and Air Force 1 its wack.
I am glad Matt rewinds things each week so some of you kids can learn about the shoes from the past that built this culture. Jordans and AF1s are important, true, but they def aren’t everything.
peace
Comment by mic check 212 — April 24, 2008 @ 1:42 pm
I honestly cant remember what the price was but it was def not much more than $100. That was a lot of scrap, but J’s were $135 then just to give perspective.
Reebok, I love the Pumps, but bring these back PLEASE!
Comment by Jazzy Mae — April 24, 2008 @ 1:47 pm
I still want these, the Shaq I and the Shawn Kemp Kamikaze.
Too many YOUNG PEOPLE trying to be “sneakerheads,” not knowing the past influences the future. Do your research, these are fresh.
Comment by Darneezy — April 24, 2008 @ 1:49 pm
nice but i dont know if i would cop. would definitely get the kamikazes (which they need to drop again)
Comment by snkradkt — April 24, 2008 @ 2:11 pm

Comment by Boath — April 24, 2008 @ 2:48 pm
great throwback matt. you never cease to amaze me with what you got in the crates. I agree that some “young people” may not respect the past, but I’m certainly not young.. I hated these then and I still think they are god awful. I’m not trippin hard at all. not glad that phrase came back and would not be glad to see these come back.
Comment by jibbycanoe — April 24, 2008 @ 3:05 pm

Basketball kicks today have no flavor other than the endorsements attached to them. There’s a reason why the mid 90’s are considered the golden era of kicks. They were more than just kicks, they were like wearable art.
Art is interpretive, as long it invokes a reaction good or bad its done its job.
As opposed to if you look at the way things are now with Basketball kicks, for example I’m sure the tech in the Kobe line is great but the design of the shoes themselves is super plan and regular, if you’re not like on the gym floor and were to just rock them with jeans on the regular no one would look twice at them.
Comment by Foxmulder — April 24, 2008 @ 5:24 pm
would not buy em cause i cant be rockin shaqs id buy if they got no shaq sign on em
Comment by yero — April 24, 2008 @ 6:32 pm
14 years ago! wow, that’s a grip of time…..didn’t realize they were that old. Yeah, I don’t know about these, tho. I would pass just b/c they are hideous no matter how good the memories are that are associated with them.
Btw, Shaq should wear them in the playoffs! Go Suns!
Comment by TechNutt — April 24, 2008 @ 7:06 pm
80’s-90’s had the best kicks
Comment by jon — April 24, 2008 @ 8:22 pm

The 2nd shaq shoe was most likely the cleanest of them all. The two that were release after the Shaqnosis were also cool. I bought the Reebok Preacher ( I think) in a black and Ice colorway. Get this, the shoe was made for NE pat wide reciever Irving Fryar but Shaq started wearing it. They just made it in Laker colors. Shaq’s next shoe looked a lot like the preacher. Many of his shoes went on sale which is how I had so many of them. I did’nt buy the Shaqnosis but I thought they were ok. The Haq II in the white black and royal blue= CLASSIC! I sold them to a guy in my dorm my Freshman year for used for 20 bucks….Damn Damn Damn!
Comment by J.King — April 25, 2008 @ 1:46 am
Yes, Matt, these shoes were very affordable compared to the market back then.
Comment by J.King — April 25, 2008 @ 1:47 am
Hey Reebok, bring back the last (2) pairs of signature shoes that was made for Shaq, the one’s with the “CLEAR” soles? I can’t think of the name of the 2 t-shoes? Dunks? or something like that? You need to bring those babies back??? I’m a BIG LAKERS Fan but, I really loved those 2 t-shoes!!! I still have Shaq’s very last signature shoe from Reebok. It’s a classic t-shoe now, so I don’t rock’em anymore!!! But would love to cop another pair? Ya hurd me???

The Shawn Kemps White, black, and green. But i would have to disagree if Reebok was to release these maybe a year and a half from now near the september month i can really see them coming back. The Pumps are kinda getting old it’s been about 7 years now. Lets move on Reebok.

Nice post! Noticed that you’ve done big man shoes lately (Robinson, Ewing, Shaq). In that light, you think you can feature what was on Olajuwon, Mutumbo, and Mourning’s feet? That’d be sick!

I am going to be putting them on Ebay this week, so if anyone is interested, e-mail me stevoal@hotmail.com
