The Vans Sk8 Hi was first created in 1978, it was one of the first high top skate shoes, and filled a huge void in the skate shoe industry. The Sk8 also features the vulcanized gum sole that has become synonymous with skate shoes.

In recent years the Sk8 Hi has become a platform for rock band collaborations, including Kiss, Slayer and Iron Maiden.
