How did you get involved with collecting?
I mean, I don?t really collect. Dudes that collect buy like serious amounts of shoes, and I just really like to cop what I see. It?s serious but to an extent.
When we talked to you about a year and a half ago, you said that you had about 30 pairs of kicks and that you didn?t like the fact that shoes were so expensive. You?ve come a long way since then. How many pairs do you own now?
Probably about 80 right now. I got some s*** though; these ?02 or ?03 Air Jordan 7s. I got the OG ?Flints.? I just got some Ray Allen Air Jordan 8?s, but I can?t wear those.
Why not?
They?re Ray Allen 8s! I can?t just walk around in Ray Allen 8s. Maybe I?ll save them for a special occasion, like when I do a show at Tigers Stadium or something.
That?s better. So many areas are associated with a certain style of sneaker. The DMV has Foamposites. LA has Chucks. What?s the style in Detroit?
Player! You know, gators and Cartier frames. Like Biggie said, ?Pink gators, my Detroit players.? I might even mess around and wear some gators, just to be an a**hole [laughs]. They?re player. I mean, why not? I set trends. Plus, I?m fly enough to rock some gators.
You?re rocking the “Raptors” Air Jordan 7s right now, but they?re not the recent retro. You like the 7 a lot?
Yeah, I do. I like the 3s, the 4s, and the 6s are definitely my favorite. The 7s are nice too, though.
Do you have a go-to pair to perform in?
These 7s. It?s just a great shoe to wear. It feels good and looks fly on stage. I have at least two pairs of these in my closet.
