Today is Day 2 of our 11 Days of 11s series on Nice Kicks where we highlight an Air Jordan 11 for each day counting down to the release of the “Legend Blue” Air Jordan 11 on December 20th.
It was said to be one of the worst kept secrets in the history of sports. The talk that Michael Jordan would return for a second time from retirement and play for the Washington Wizards started in the spring of 2001 and continued through the summer.
In the midst of all the discussion of MJ returning to the NBA was an amazing run of retro Air Jordan 11s. Starting in December of 2000 and continuing through 2001, we saw every OG colorway of the Air Jordan 11 mid release as well as the long awaited Space Jams, and a number of lowtops.
The original Air Jordan 11 Low IE wasn’t a hit when it first released in the 90s, but could patent leather change that? Well, despite how great patent leather Air Jordan 11 lows are performing today, back then, they were not a strong seller including this pair that probably performed the worst at retail – the Air Jordan 11 Low “Snakeskin”.
The “Snakeskin” Air Jordan 11 Low released on May 26, 2001 and sat. And sat. And sat. They hit the outlets where they sat some more. It wasn’t until they made their way to the hashwall at $49.99 that I scooped this pair from the Nike Outlet in Pleasant Prairie, WI.
With the recent success of the retro Air Jordan 11 Low, it is a surprise that this colorway has not made its return yet. Rumors swirled about a year ago that they would be brought back, but to no avail. Hopefully we will see them pop up on the Jordan release dates page, but for now, happy hunting!
