Our number one basketball sneaker commercial may be controversial to many, but it spawned a debate that would continue for many years to come: Are athletes role models? While there is a strong case for them inherently being one due to their high visibility, Nike tackled this topic head-on within their 1993 campaign featuring Charles Barkley proclaiming “I Am Not A Role Model.” In addition, this ad would be utilized as a muse for LeBron James’ RISE commercial back in 2010.
