In this week’s edition of Community Spotlight we take a trip to Portland, Oregon!
In the spotlight this week is 25 year old Portland native, Brittany Raz. Like many of us that grew up playing sports, Raz too eventually became a lover of sneakers. Not only does she love watching and playing basketball, she loves rocking the latest hoop shoes from Nike Basketball and Jordan Brand. If you browse through her social media accounts you will see her rocking some of your favorite signature models from Kyrie Irving, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Now while her collection may be dominated by Nike, she does have a few gems from the good folks over on Greeley Avenue at adidas Originals.
Take a few minutes out of your day to read about a fellow sneakerhead, and then let us know who you think we should feature next week in the comments section below.
Name: Brittany Raz
Location: Portland, Oregon
Social Media: Instagram
Jeffrey Jason: When did you start collecting kicks?
Brittany Raz: Growing up, my dad always took me shopping at the beginning of every sports season for new shoes because without a job I couldn’t afford them myself. It wasn’t until I graduated college a year and a half ago and started a “big girl job” that I started my real collection.
JJ: Who or what started it all for you?
BR: I would definitely say my parents influenced my love for kicks. My dad would always take me to get the newest Jordan’s for basketball. At the same time, my mom didn’t like me dressing like “a boy” so she would take me to buy girly sneakers. I definitely got spoiled with the best of both worlds
JJ: What was your last pick up?
BR: Nike Huaraches and Kyrie 1s. My most recent retro pick up was the Air Jordan 6 “Iron Purple.” It was a late find but definitely worth it.
JJ: What is your grail or shoe you’re still hunting for?
BR: The shoe every sneakerhead wants in their collection… Air Jordan 11 “Concord.”
JJ: What do you love most about sneaker culture?
BR: I love how it has allowed me to meet people and develop friendships all around the country with people who share the same passion for sneakers.
JJ: What would you like to see change/more of in sneaker culture?
BR: Being selfish, I would love to see more sneaker events in the Northwest mainly the Portland/Seattle areas. If I could change anything, I would eliminate those who buy sneakers strictly for profit. I feel like they take away from those who collect shoes to actually wear and enjoy them.
JJ: Someone else’s collection I really admire is____
BR: I wouldn’t say that there’s anyone specific that stands out to me. I honestly admire anyone in the sneaker community that actually wears their kicks. But if I did pick someone I’d say NYJumpman23 (Stanley). He’s become a great friend through the sneaker community. He has an impressive collection and gets to test all the shoes I wish Jordan made in grade school sizes to wear on the court.
Keep up with Brittany on Instagram.
