When you think of relay races, you typically think of the 4x100m and 4x400m but in Japan, every year they host Ekiden races, which is a long-distance relay race that goes for over 100km and can go on for days. Nike is paying tribute to the event with a limited edition colorway of the Nike Air ZoomX AlphaFly NEXT% for the relay races.
The sneaker uses a yellow and orange gradient on the upper, which is made from Atomknit, the latest version of Flyknit. Black accenting is seen throughout, most notable on the large Swoosh and Fuse overlays on the laces which are also 3M reflective. The gradient extends down into the ZoomX foam midsole which sits on top of two visible Zoom units in the forefoot and full-length carbon plate for propulsion and energy return. The outsole features a data-researched design, with different angles of traction placed in every stride.
The Nike Air ZoomX AlphaFly NEXT% “Ekiden” is available now in Japan, with a US release date that is still unknown. Check out the official photos from Nike in the meantime and stay tuned to our Sneaker Release Dates page when we have a US release date.
