Where to buy BHM Collection 2022
Every year since 2005, Nike has dropped an honorary Black History Month Collection to celebrate the annual observance of Black excellence. With each collection, Nike hopes to lead by example in sparking dialogue and enacting positive change. Nike approaches this from a holistic standpoint by not only creating apparel and footwear, but also by raising awareness and investing in the Black community. The Nike Black History Month 2022 Collection features a Nike Air Force 1 trio that will be released alongside a matching “Future Movement” apparel capsule.
Designed by Black creatives, the BHM 2022 Nike Air Force 1 comes in three different colorways, with each pair complementing the next. All three of the sneakers have a sort of metamorphosis theme signified with butterflies and leafy green accents. Two of the Air Force options have black exteriors, one with gradient trim and the other with a nature-inspired Swoosh. The standout Air Force 1 has a floral upper with a green midsole. Each pair features a “FM” logo on the tongue, signifying the “Future Movement.”
The Future Movement is a talk-show program Nike launched in May 2021. The show is hosted by global civil rights activist Janaya Future Khan, who speaks with leading Black athletes, creatives, and community leaders that are inspiring change by advocating for a better future. The apparel collection features the Future Movement on a series of t-shirts and hoodies.
In addition to the footwear and apparel, Nike will be donating $2.75 million to 44 organizations nationwide. Each organization fights for the benefit of Black Americans through initiatives like social justice, education, innovation, and economic opportunity. This contribution is apart of Nike’s larger $140 million commitment to the Black community, which was announced in May 2020, in the wake of George Floyd. $100 million of the commitment was pledged by Michael Jordan on behalf of the Jordan Brand. Some of the recipients so far include Son of A Saint, All Star Code, Big Brother Big Sisters of America, and the Equal Justice Initiative.
To further the discussion around the Nike Black History Month 2022 Collection, Future Movement’s upcoming broadcast on February 22nd will feature Olympians Simone Manuel, Ibtihaj Muhammad, and Dr. John Carlos to have a conversation about how sport and activism have intersected in their lives.
