Markus Thaler, a legendary figure in the world of sneaker design and a cornerstone of adidas Originals, has passed away at the age of 71.

His career with the Three Stripes began in the 1970s and worked alongside adidas’ founder Adi Dassler. For 47 years, he embodied Dassler’s commitment to craftsmanship and turned it into a legacy by creating some of adidas’ most iconic models & franchises, such as the adidas Originals ZX 8000, EQT, and Torsion-bar offerings.

In 2008, adidas commemorated a special adidas Originals ZX 8000 to Thaler and Jacques Chassaing (who was responsible for the entire ZX franchise).

His wisdom and innovative spirit were passed onto others during his time at adidas by working alongside a handful of designers to create one-of-a-kind for stars such as Lionel Messi, Snoop Dogg, Caroline Wozniacki, and Derrick Rose.

Our condolences go to the Thaler family.
