Another classic returns as the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Shattered Backboard” is rumored to return in 2025.

The colorway, released in 2015, marked a new era for Jordan Brand and especially the Air Jordan 1 franchise as premium materials elevated the AJ1 and set a standard for upcoming releases and collaborations alike.

At the same time, the release ushered in a new wave of storytelling for the Jumpman rather than relying on the same handful of colorways that were established in 1985.

In addition to the premium, “buttery” leather of the SBB, the pair also implemented a sail hue instead of the traditionally used white that donned the leather of AJ1s. This would eventually pave the way for the “aged” and “distressed” sneaker era, spanning from the Union LA x Air Jordan 1 High OG “Black Toe” & “Storm Blue” collection, to the Air Jordan 1 High OG Reimagined Chicago “Lost & Found” release, and many others, even into other brands.

Although the “Shattered Backboard” colorway isn’t an OG iteration, the story draws from Michael Jordan dunking and shattering a backboard in an exhibition game for Stefanel Trieste, which had an orange & black uniform combination.

As Jordan Brand and Nike open the vault for classics such as a re-release of the UNDEFEATED x Air Jordan 4 to the first-ever retail release of the PlayStation x Nike Air Force 1 Low, the return of the AJ1 “Shattered Backboard” arrives at a time where the brand looks to harp back on classics to re-energize its fan base and lure newcomers & OGs alike.

The Air Jordan 1 High OG “Shattered Backboard” returns in 2025 via SNKRS and select retailers.
