Nike is celebrating the Harlem Globetrotters as the icons will have their own Nike Dunk Low and Air Force 1 Low with the upcoming “Harlem Globetrotters” pack.

The Harlem Globetrotters are one of the most famous and influential basketball teams in history, combining athleticism, comedy, and entertainment.

Founded in 1926 by Abe Saperstein in Chicago, the Globetrotters were initially a competitive team, composed of Black players at a time when racial segregation prevented them from joining many leagues. They adopted the “Harlem” name as a nod to the Harlem Renaissance, even though the team’s roots were in Chicago.

In their early years, the Globetrotters were known for their basketball dominance, often beating serious competition, including NBA teams. Their victory over the Minneapolis Lakers in 1948 was a defining moment that helped pave the way for the integration of Black players into the NBA.

Notable players who helped shape the Globetrotters’ legacy include Goose Tatum, known for his comedic flair, and Marques Haynes, a legendary ball-handler. Curly Neal and Meadowlark Lemon became iconic figures in the 1960s and 1970s, thanks to their mix of basketball brilliance and showmanship. Another standout was Wilt Chamberlain, who played for the Globetrotters in 1958 before joining the NBA.

Beyond basketball, the Harlem Globetrotters have had a profound impact on sports and pop culture. They broke racial barriers, helped spread the popularity of basketball worldwide by playing in over 120 countries, and became global ambassadors for the sport.

Appearing in numerous TV shows, films, and commercials, the Globetrotters became symbols of fun and inclusivity, leaving an enduring legacy that continues to influence both the sports and entertainment industries today.

Now, the Globetrotters continue the legacy with the upcoming Nike “Harlem Globetrotters” pack.

The color plate is consistent with the storied team as white, sail, red, blue, and yellow grace the respective Dunk Low and AF1. Additionally, a Harlem Globetrotters-esque Nike logo graces each pair of insoles.
