Kyrie Irving and ANTA continue to deliver on the ANTA KAI 1 line as the “Chief Hela” colorway is finally releasing.

Paying tribute to Kyrie’s Native American roots, this latest iteration of his signature sneaker lineup dives deep into tradition, with “Hela” representing his Lakota name meaning “Little Mountain.”

The “Chief Hela” is an earthy statement on and off the court, with a rich brown suede upper and golden outsole inspired by ancestral landscapes. The details are all intentional — from the intricate embroidery on the collar, symbolizing Irving’s warrior spirit, to the fringes around the shoe, reminiscent of moccasin design. The fringes authentically elevate the storytelling of the pair as they’re rooted in Indigenous culture, traditionally symbolizing a wearer’s connection to their heritage, while adding that unmistakable look of functionality and tradition.

“The ‘Chief Hela’ colorway reflects Kyrie’s roots, deeply grounded in the support of his family and heritage,” said ANTA’s Color Design Director, Shaneika Warden. “We wanted to capture that energy and bring it to life through this design, allowing fans to connect with Kyrie’s lineage every time they lace up.”

On its May 22 debut, Irving lit up the court in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, scoring 30 points and securing a victory for the Mavericks. Fans took to social media to celebrate both the performance and the shoe, praising the colorway for its nod to Kyrie’s heritage with every step.

Charlotte Mountain, Kyrie’s aunt from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, expressed how the shoe honors the strength and wisdom of their people. “By honoring his Lakota name, ‘Hela,’ Kyrie is helping to share our culture with the world.”
