adidas and Anthony Edwards shot green all year with the launch of the Timberwolves star’s debut adidas AE 1 signature sneaker. With over 20 colorways across mid and low-top versions, the AE 1 made waves both on and off the court. From unforgettable on-court moments and viral ad campaigns sparking a new era of sneaker brand wars to an Olympic Gold Medal as the crowning achievement, adidas easily inserted the AE 1 in the conversation for Sneaker Model of the Year.
Nominee – Air Jordan 4 RM
The Air Jordan 4 RM debuted to high praise with the help of Nigel Sylvester and his “Grandma’s Driveway” collaboration. The Jordan 4 RM completely reimagines traditional Jordan 4 details like the wings and eyestays, resulting in a singular sturdy cage and overall extra cushy setup Following the successful launch of the “Fence Green” pair, Jordan Brand rolled out over 15 colorways of the model, solidifying it’s place as one of the best new models of the year.

Nominee – Jumpman Jack
Travis Scott’s first signature sneaker made its debut as the Jumpman Jack—or the CJ1 T-REXX, depending on who you ask. Featuring Scott’s signature reverse Swoosh, a retro cross-trainer vibe, and unique branding, the sneaker first dropped as a shock drop following the Grammy Awards. John Geiger calls the 004 his best work yet—and we couldn’t agree more. Designed for everyday wear, this high-end sneaker blends retro basketball aesthetics with modern lifestyle functionality. The standout silhouette features an EVA popcorn-layer midsole and a completely redesigned black rubber tread outsole, delivering exceptional comfort and stability. With nine colorways released this year—each selling out—the 004 has proven to be a certified hit, solidifying Geiger’s place in the sneaker world.
Sneaker of the Year – Collaboration
WINNER – Kids of Immigrants x Nike Air Max Sunder

This year, the acclaimed rapper, celebrated for his eclectic style and culinary prowess, followed up with a trio of vibrant New Balance 1906R designs that sold out instantly. In a crowded market of collaborative footwear, the Action Bronson x New Balance 1906R collection distinguished itself through its exceptional craftsmanship, unparalleled comfort, and unique individuality, cementing its status as a must-have for sneaker enthusiasts.
Nominee – PJ Tucker x Nike Air Flight 89 Low
PJ Tucker isn’t just a collector of the best sneakers—he’s a creator of them too. The NBA’s sneaker king teamed up with Nike to release an ultra-limited edition Air Flight 89 Low, with only 472 pairs produced. This number mirrors the seating capacity of a Boeing 777-300, a nod to Tucker’s frequent travel schedule. Thoughtful details elevate the design, including a custom “Flight PJ 17” logo replacing the traditional Nike Air branding on the heel. Kith and ASICS joined forces to merge comics, streetwear, and performance footwear in a highly-anticipated collaboration that highlighted the darker side of the Marvel Universe. The collection showcased ASICS silhouettes like the GT-2160, Gel-Kayano 14, and Gel-1130, each brought to life with unique color palettes, materials, and design details that captured the essence of iconic Marvel villains. This collaboration masterfully combined pop culture storytelling with premium sneaker craftsmanship, creating a collection that resonated with both comic enthusiasts and sneakerheads alike.
Nominee – The Powerpuff Girls x Nike SB Dunk Low
The Powerpuff Girls x Nike SB Dunk Low collection delivered a nostalgic nod to the early 2000s, seamlessly combining the playful charm of Cartoon Network’s beloved trio with Nike SB’s signature streetwear aesthetic. Each shoe drew inspiration from Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, featuring bold colorways, character-specific details, and fun accents like embroidered graphics and metallic finishes. Nominee – Marvel x adidas Rivalry Low “Deadpool & Wolverine”
Released in anticipation of the 2024 “Deadpool & Wolverine” film, the Marvel x adidas Rivalry Low “Deadpool & Wolverine” sneaker collection captures the explosive relationship between two of Marvel’s most iconic characters. Each sneaker is intricately designed to reflect the distinctive personalities of Deadpool and Wolverine and the Rivalry Low’s retro aesthetic paired well with the thematic storytelling, making the shoes appealing to both collectors and casual wearers.
Nominee – TMNT x adidas Superstar
An adidas SHELLTOE collaboration with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a match made in sneaker heaven, making the connection alone worthy of an award nomination. The sneakers feature a turtle shell graphic on the toecap and green textured leather, reminiscent of the Turtles’ signature look. Red bandana lace dubraes pay tribute to the original comics, where all four turtles wore red bandanas. The TMNT x adidas Superstar is a top sneaker collab of 2024 for capturing the essence of the turtles while staying true to the classic Superstar design.
Nominee – “Fruity Pebbles” Nike LeBron 4
The “Fruity Pebbles” Nike LeBron 4 was once a highly coveted PE for LeBron James, laying the groundwork for countless PEBBLES x Nike collaborations that followed. After 14 years, this iconic sneaker finally saw a retail release. Drawing inspiration from The King’s favorite childhood cereal, the pair features a Fruity Pebbles-inspired pattern on the midsole and inner lining, a custom PEBBLES x LeBron logo, and “family size” embroidered on the heel tab—a tribute to both the cereal’s packaging and LeBron’s deep devotion to his family.
Sneaker of the Year – Collaborator
WINNER – Ronnie Fieg
Ronnie Fieg, founder of Kith, remains a pivotal figure in the sneaker and streetwear industry. In 2024, Kith further solidified its reputation through sought-after collaborations with brands such as adidas, ASICS, Clarks, Columbia, Converse, New Balance, and Salomon. Beyond the pure volume of partnerships, Kith distinguishes itself by weaving compelling narratives into its designs, seamlessly bridging streetwear and high-end fashion.
Nominee – Joe Freshgoods
Joe Freshgoods continues to make waves in the sneaker and streetwear collaboration scene in 2024. Continuing his successful relationship with New Balance, Joe Freshgoods introduced two notable collections: the New Balance 1000 “When Things Were Pure” pack and the New Balance 990v6 “Prom Pack.” Both releases exemplified his narrative-driven concepts and signature storytelling, reflecting on personal experiences and the vibrant aesthetics of the early 2000s.
Nominee – James Whitner
James Whitner and The Whitaker Group, founder of Social Status and A Ma Maniére, remained a significant force in sneaker collaborations and streetwear in 2024. Known for culturally meaningful and thoughtfully designed releases, A Ma Maniere launched the expansive “While You Were Sleeping” collection. This six-shoe collaboration with Nike, Jordan Brand, and Converse is the first with all three Nike Inc. brands since Virgil Abloh’s “The Ten.” Additionally, the New Balance 1906U “Willful Bias” pack addressed social issues through its design. Expanding TWG’s cultural footprint, Whitner opened a new 38a art gallery in Charlotte, commemorated by a special edition adidas Superstar, celebrating underrepresented artists.
Nominee – Salehe Bembury
Salehe Bembury continues to be a dominant force in the footwear industry, renowned for his distinctive, nature-inspired designs. In 2024, he strengthened his partnership with New Balance, releasing collaborative versions of the 1906R, 991v2, and 530 models. His collaborations with Crocs expanded significantly, introducing the Pollex Juniper, Saru Clog, and Cypress Duck Boot. Notably, Bembury is set to lead creative design for Puma Hoops, crafting the brand’s next signature silhouette, presumably for newly signed athlete Tyrese Haliburton.

WINNER – “Green Fence” Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 4 RM
The “Green Fence” Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 4 RM is a deeply personal design, paying homage to Nigel’s grandmother’s driveway—the place where his passion for biking was born. This heartfelt inspiration shines through in the thoughtful details, such as the green upper, which matches the exact color of the fence surrounding his grandmother’s home. The tribute extends to the packaging, with a direct scan of the driveway’s concrete featured on the box. Adding another nostalgic touch, the packing paper covering the shoes showcases a photo of young Nigel on a tricycle, tying the story together beautifully.

Cincinnati-based boutique Unheardof partnered with adidas to create the Rivalry Low “Building Bridges,” a sneaker paying tribute to the city’s iconic John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge. The design draws inspiration from the bridge’s Buena Vista freestone with its textured upper, while the translucent “foam green” sole reflects the summer hue of the Ohio River. Limited to just 1,000 pairs, the release carried a personal and charitable significance. A portion of the proceeds supported the Children’s Home of Cincinnati, a nod to Unheardof founder Phil Lipschutz, who dropped off there on his third birthday.
Nominee – A Ma Maniére x NIKE Inc. “While You Were Sleeping” Collection
A Ma Maniére marked its 10th anniversary with the “While You Were Sleeping” collection, a six-shoe collaboration with Nike, Jordan Brand, and Converse. This release, the largest Nike sneaker collection since Virgil Abloh’s iconic “The Ten,” showcases A Ma Maniére’s signature sophistication. Featuring premium materials, quilted linings, and a refined palette of rich violet, maroon, and creamy neutrals, each design reflects the brand’s distinctive aesthetic. Joe Freshgoods teamed up with New Balance to unveil the “When Things Were Pure” collection, marking the revival of the New Balance 1000 model. WINNER – Nike Air Foamposite One “DMV”
The Nike Air Foamposite One “DMV” pays tribute to the distinctive culture of the Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region, known collectively as the DMV. This special edition sneaker features a cherry blossom-themed colorway and custom insoles, inspired by the area’s renowned Cherry Blossom Festival. The heel tab prominently displays “DMV” branding, underscoring its regional dedication. Enhancing its cultural significance, DMV-native rapper and avid Foamposite enthusiast Wale played a pivotal role in the marketing campaign, amplifying the release’s resonance within the community.
Nominee – Air Jordan 5 “El Grito”
The Air Jordan 5 “El Grito” pays homage to Mexican culture and commemorates Mexico’s Independence Day. “El Grito” refers to the historic “Grito de Dolores,” the call to arms by Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla on September 16, 1810, which initiated the Mexican War of Independence. The sneaker features embossed patterns inspired by traditional Mexican craftsmanship, such as talavera pottery, adorning the tongue, toe, and heel, adding cultural depth to its design.
