There are a number of Nike Basketball shoes from the latter part of the last decade as well as the early 2000’s that I would like to see come back, but it is quite interesting that this pair has returned.

The Nike Air Solo Flight popped up about a year after the first Flightposite released right before the turn of the millennium. Riding on the success of the Flightposite, the shoe was made to look similar to the flagship Nike Basketball sneaker, but did not come close in terms of performance. The synthetic upper was made to look like posite material; however, it was not form fitting nor as durable. The sole was a thinner rubber though shaped like the Flightposite’s counterpart and the plastic TPU on the side was well, just a piece of plastic with no functionality.

In order to legally carry the “Air” name, the shoe had an Encapsulated Air Unit (EAU) which was far from comparable to the Zoom Air that the Flightposite sported. All in all, it was a decent looking shoe for a sub $100 price, but the similar looks to the Flightposite were almost misleading to someone who didn’t know the difference between the two.

The retro version of the Nike Air Solo Flight will be available exclusively at Footlocker and Footaction stores later this year in three colors. No word on the third color yet, but expect silver/black as that was the most popular color back in the day. Photos thanks to Sneaker News.
