We’ve yet to see a player rival the unbelievable Kicks On Court season Gilbert Arenas had during the 2010-2011 NBA season. It was not out of the ordinary to see him wear Iversons, Jordans, Pennys and Grant Hills in the same week. Even a Dolce & Gabanna sneaker was not off limits for Agent Zero that year.
Fast forward to the 2012-2013 NBA season, Derrick Williams, another former Arizona Wildcat, has similarly displayed the depth of his sneaker closet, his affinity for an assortment of different sneakers, and his desire to stand out from the rest of the pack on court.
“Unlike everybody else, I didn’t wear one shoe release from 2013,” said Williams. “I really tried to be different by wearing stuff that I know nobody else would wear. I didn’t want to wear the latest releases.”
Not once did we see Williams debuting highly-anticipated releases on court, such as the all-white Foams, the ’88 retro 3s or the “Area 72” Barkley Posites. Instead, the Timberwolves forward wore three shoes from the 90s: the “Oxidized Green” 14s, the “Redwood” 14s and the original Nike Flight One Black/White from 1995 (find out more about the latter shoe mentioned from the man himself later on in today’s episode of Kicks On Court Weekly Recap).
Williams also did more with the Timberwolves’ color scheme of slate blue, black, silver and green than we expected, and claimed that he would’ve done much more with a traditional, more common color scheme. “Teams like Chicago get no respect from me,” Williams said jokingly. “If I had red and black in my uniform, it would’ve definitely been over because there’s so much you can do with that color scheme.”
Sneakers such as the “French Blue” 12s, the “MPLS” Kobe I and the “College Blue” XVIIs coincided perfectly with the Timberwolves uniforms. Williams even wore the “Red Carpet” LeBron VIIs sans the red laces, a move he said he made to dodge a potential fine.

Everything was pretty much a surprise. The “Oregon” 4s stick out as one of his biggest surprises because only a few have them, and the ones that do have them probably would never ever wear them on court. Derrick is different, however.
