Known for his quirky personality and his fierce competitive spirit, Gilbert has often made headlines for things other than basketball and kicks. Nicknamed ?Hibachi? (a Japanese heating device) that literally translates to ?bowl of fire,? it makes sense why Gil would shower in full uniform during halftime. Named the 2003 Most Improved Player Agent Zero often slept in the practice facility to prove the doubters wrong. While consistently working on his game Arenas didn?t forget about his community starting the ?Scores for Schools? program aiming at providing housing for single parent families. Currently dealing with injuries there is no question that Gil will be back stronger than ever.
Signed to Adidas, Gilbert was part of the ?Circus of the Guards? who pushed the Game Day Lighting. Shortly after, came his first signature shoe: the Gil Zero. Built for speed Undrcrwn came out with a special color way of the shoe. Next came the GilIIZero, correctly pronounced the Gil 20. Agent Zero originally wanted 82 color ways of the shoe so he would have a new one for every game, however Adidas agreed to only 20. This included a Halo color way and a ?Scores for Schools? one. Because of an injured season Gil didn?t get to wow the sneaker community with the Gil 20s in the 2008-09 season.
