Sports stars look for any edge to motivate themselves to perform better. Those lucky enough to have their own shoe can also derive inspiration from a variety of sources that, in turn, can help create colorways. In the latest installment of Sneaker Nicknames Explained, we take a look at two of the more popular athletes in the last two decades, and some childhood inspirations they used for their kicks.

Nike LeBron “Summit Lake Hornets”

LeBron James’ days at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School have been well documented. Also, any casual fan of sports knows of his NBA career spent with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Miami Heat. However, before any of that, a young James ran the local recreational league with his friends. He and his Summit Lake Hornets teammates rocked the purple and teal colors that now don the Nike LeBron “Summit Lake Hornets” iterations.
