One of the four original colorways of the Air Jordan 5, the “Fire Reds” are back for only the second time in 23 years. The AJ5 was brought to life by Tinker Hatfield and features innovative and creative elements and features. As the first model to feature a clear sole, accented by the bright red shark teeth shapes on the midsole, the “Fire Red” 5 personified its endorser. This colorway perfectly complimented the Chicago Bulls jerseys, and the “23” stamp on the heel personalized it exclusively to MJ. Michael Jordan laced up the “Fire Red” Jordan 5 during the first half of the 1990-91 season, which would propel him to his second NBA MVP and first NBA Championship.
The Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” received its first and only retro release in 2007, and is now back in its same color scheme for 2013. The differences from the 1990 OG and the newest retro are few and far between, with the largest eye-catcher being a slimmer modern “23” stamp, as JB kept it classic. Scroll through to see a detailed comparison between the first OG release and the 2013 Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red”.
