Just in time for the 2008 Olympics, Premium Goods is releasing the last Nike Zoom Kobe 1, the “Atomic Kobe”, to commemorate Team USA athlete, Kobe Bryant. During the 2006 NBA All-Star Weekend in Houston, Nike invited six boutiques to take place in a design contest for an exclusive ZK-1 colorway. The stores included Alife, Huf, Nort, St. Alfred, Premium Goods, and Undefeated. Kobe Bryant selected Premium Goods design as the overall winner.
The inspiration for the “Atomic Kobe” came from numerous emotions mentioned in Kobe’s diary, the most important of which being energy. Premium Goods applied the infinity symbol throughout the shoe to represent the scientific equation of E=mc2, but also a rotated version of the number 8 (Kobe’s jersey number at the time). The atomic symbol on the side heel of each shoe features Kobe’s Black Mamba logo, representing the nucleus.
On August 8, 2008 (08.08.08), 8 pairs will be released at both Brooklyn and Houston locations for $444.
