In the spirit of this weekend’s big retro release, we’re turning back the clock with a new installment of Throwback Thursday. On Saturday, the Air Jordan 12 “Taxi” returns for the second time in mid top form. Back in 2004, the “Taxis” were making noise as a low top launch.
Following success with Bad Boy and Ruff Ryders, LOX standout Jadakiss made the move to Def Jam in 2004. His second solo album, Kiss of Death, birthed the biggest song of his career. “Why” proved to be one of the most memorable and popular records of ’04, seeing production from Mobb Deep’s Havoc and a knockout hook by Anthony Hamilton. The conscious yet controversial track pushed a theme of protest and touched on political topics all while burning up the radio and video circuits. While the biggest fashion statement in the visual proved to be the track themed t-shirts, Kiss showed he was up on his Jordan Brand game by rocking the recently released “Taxi” Lows.
Can you believe it’s been almost a decade since this record and these retros dropped? Though the “Taxi” Lows returned in 2011, many fans favor the OG build. Will you be copping the mid top Taxi 12s this weekend? Were you rocking the low back in ‘04? Let us know in the comment section.
