Jordan Brand is a brand that celebrates greatness and the legacy that greatness achieved. The stories are told of the Greatest Of All Time over and over about his 6 rings, 5 MVPs, 14 All Star appearances, and 2 Slam Dunk contests, but rarely do we talk about those moments that Mike ALMOST made it.
A new Air Jordan 1 High Strap just surfaced today across the pond at Foot Locker Europe with delivery in the US expected soon that has appears to have a little more of a story to tell than just an Air Jordan 1 High in classic Black/Red colors with a strap. For starters, the material of the shoes is something unique with the toe box and and side panel swapping out the traditional leather for the Jordan Flight Suit nylon material. The other touch that caught my attention right away was the gold detail on the strap.
Why gold on a Black/Red Jordan 1? The only time I could think of gold being associated with Jordan (other than of course his two Olympic Medals) was when he wore a gold rope chain in the 1985 Slam-Dunk Contest. And you guessed it, the same Dunk Contest that he wore the Black/Red Air Jordan 1.
While the high-flying rookie did not take home the Slam-Dunk Contest title, he was the runner up to Dominique Wilkins which made for a showdown with even higher stakes in 1987 and 1988 when he defeated the Human Highlight Reel back-to-back.
Next year marks a milestone anniversary of the Air Jordan line. The ball has yet to drop in Time Square, but you can be sure to see and hear more great stories and stories told in new ways about Michael Jordan as Jordan Brand celebrates 30 years of Air Jordan.
