According to multiple sources, longtime product marketing executive Gentry Humphrey has decided to leave Nike Inc. to pursue other business opportunities.
Humphrey, a Nike employee of over two decades since 1994, originally worked in sales and marketing at Nike Basketball before becoming an instrumental figure in expanding the Air Jordan business after the creation of the Jordan Brand in 1998. He is often credited with helping to shape the initial product plan and cadence for Air Jordan retro models that has since become a staple of the now-$2 Billion Jordan Brand.
He most recently led the Nike Sportswear category of urban and energy Retro basketball and football products as Category Footwear Leader over the past 5 years. In that role, he was charged with growing the Nike Sportswear business through the expansion of the Penny Hardaway and Charles Barkley retro lines, and of course, the explosion of the Foamposite series.
At this time, there is no word just yet on where Humphrey is headed, though he is expected to stay working within the athletic industry.
