Meet Malcs. A rapper known to customize kicks and a Towson grad, the young creative is finding his footing in music but has always been into sneakers. For this installment of Kickstarter, we spoke with Malcs to hear about the very iconic Air Jordan drop that got it all started for him.
Malcs: “The first shoe that got me hooked was the Concord 11s. They were just perfect. I had dabbled with shoes in the past, but that’s what got me heavily into Jordans. My parents would always buy me them when I was younger, but that was the shoe that made me start collecting them personally. I had some baby Carmine 6s and that was my first pair of Jordans ever.”
“I remember getting them right before Halloween. All my friends were wearing Nike and Jordan. My cousin is the one who taught me all of the history behind the shoes. He played basketball when we were little, so he knew about everything and then that’s what got me into sneakers.”
“I bought two pairs of the Concords when they came out in 2011. I didn’t like the Low Concords. Just the classic ones. I was glad they put the icy soles on it.”
“The Concord 11s will always be classic to me. The design is unreal. To me, that was the design that really connected with the culture and the people. Nike understands that it isn’t just athletes that wear and buy Jordans. I think Tinker Hatfield really executed that design and that’s what made people fall in love with the shoe and the silhouette.”
