As the idea of 3D-printed footwear moves beyond conceptual and into the realm of production, more brands are effectively transitioning to the latter. New Balance is the latest to announce a performance runner shoe with a budding 3D-printed midsole.

Leveraging the benefits of the 3D-printing while keeping with the company’s unique heritage, a concept that began back in 2013 is finally taking shape as technical capabilities grow more advanced and accessibility increases.

Earlier 3D-printed prototypes have been extremely heavy and ultimately lacked the functional versatility New Balance prides their product on. Thus, in April 2016, the brand will debut breakthroughs in balancing flexibility, strength, weight and durability. Stay tuned for more.
