Great, great news.

After a lengthy hiatus, the much-loved “tennis ball” Nike Zoom Talaria is on the way back at the end of this month in its original 1997 form.

Look for the iconic running shoe, originally designed by none other than Tinker Hatfield, to drop on March 31st as a Nike Lab launch. They’ll feature the bold neon suede upper, grid mesh underlays and black framing throughout that gave the shoe such a distinct design. Along the outsole, you’ll once again find the gradient faded full-length and bottom-loaded Zoom Air bag.

“The Zoom Talaria was something that worked,” Mark Smith told me a few years ago, as he took inspiration from the runner when working with Hatfield on the Air Jordan 2010. “Innovation doesn’t have to be a new gizmo.”

In the meantime, in the spirit of Nike’s classic telephone ads of the era, you can dial 1-800-250-2652 (or 800-023-4844 in the UK) to hear a message directly from Tinker. Which is awesome.
