Apple’s new iOS 10 update will feature the usual slight tweaks and upgrades throughout, but one of the most noticeable differences to the new iPhone operating system will be the addition of more than 100 emojis. There’s a new batch of gender and race-based updates for more diversity throughout, including several new sports-based additions, like a female basketball player emoji.
We couldn’t help but notice the new emoji’s great sneaker taste, as she’s wearing a Nike Air Penny 2, with the unmistakable white midsole wing and silver 3M collar icon.
The Black / White / Red colorway was originally created in 2009 to touch on Penny Hardaway’s short-lived tenure with the Miami Heat. While his permanent residency these days is in his hometown of Memphis, Penny also lives in Miami for stretches of the year. The shoe took on a coincidental place in cult sneaker lore when LeBron James wore them at a basketball camp two days before his infamous “The Decision” show in 2010, a clever clue that at the time went unnoticed by most just before he opted to take his talents to South Beach.
Check out one of the newest Apple emojis below, donning one of Penny Hardaway’s most iconic signature models, and we’ll keep our eyes peeled for any other sneaker-related additions that might be on deck with the new update.
