Going way, way back for inspiration, the Alumni x Brooks Regent “The Great Mistake” celebrates the union of Brooklyn and Manhattan in 1898 that birthed New York as we now know and love it — or for some hate it (thus the ‘mistake’ monicker). Why is that? Well, with the merger some Brooklynites feared losing their civic identity and independence. Either way you see it, it’s made for a cool shoe more than 100 years later…
Consisting of a cream midsole and gum outer, the retro runner that is the Regent pulls from pastels popular in the late 19th century, ranging from white swan to cream tan to mauve. While all this may sound rather neutral, the kick of personality comes in the material mixture as both shoes sport different construction. Yup, the right shoe is made with suede and the left elects nubuck. Just the same, mesh and leather toe boxes star accordingly.
Releasing at Alumni on March 4th with an apparel collection by Ebbets Field, preview this pair in the photos below.
